Vorsteiner hood fitment powerdome

hey all,

just had a vorsteiner powerdome hood installed and the fitment isnt perfect but not bad. I know there were a number of people on the forum that had their fitment tweaked somehow so I was curious what people had to done improve the fit around the edges? (ie..front hood gap, gap w/fenders)

thanks in advance

I realize this is a shitty iphone shot, and not a close up, but the sections I was referring to are the front hood (right under the emblem where the hood meets the bumper) and the sides, where the hood meets the fenders (the gap is a little wider than normal). I think there was some way to adjust the fenders to close the gap down and maybe some way to tweak the front latch to allow the hood to go down a smidge?

I removed the rubber adjusters as well as the other rubber pieces around the latch and on the edge of the top of the bumper along with setting the metal latches lower so it grabs it nice and tight. Also i removed the plastic screw protectors along the inner edge of the hood and shimmed the screws with nylon spacers and got my hood to fit very good imo!! Takes a lil work but well worth it imo... good luck!!

I will definitely give it a whirl. I know this is a pain, but do you have any pics of the modifications you made? (so I can attempt to copy them)

if there was a +rep button id be laying it on

+1 Couldn't have said it better. Try adjusting the front rubber grommets and the rubber molding along the side.

so question...if I add the shims etc, thatll make the fenders sit a little higher on the side and if I adjust the latch in front itll clamp it down more...but

I notice that the gap between the hood and the fenders is rather large, and the bolts that hold the fender in seem to be screwed into a little rectangular piece and has a little movement in it. Is there any way to minimize the fender-->hood gaps??

I have a powerdome hood and I have the same problem......far from "perfection redefined".

its all good man!

ill take pics and ill ahve them tomorrow to show exactly what the issue is.

in my best attempt to describe, if you are standing in front of the car looking at the hood, and right and left side of the hood (the sides that face the fenders) have a large gap width wise between the hood and the fender. Height wise the sides are level, but theres a pencil sized gap width wise from the fender to the hood on either side. This, along with the front clamp needing to be tooled down so it has less gap with the front of the hood to the bumper..but ill get a pic

i.e..the hood doesnt seem like its wide enough to fill the gaps on the side, like the fenders need to be pulled closer in towards the center of the car (+the front gap)

I had to remove the hood spring at the emergency latch under the roundel to eliminate the gap between the hood and the front bumper at the kidney grills. Also, don't forget that any body panel you replace, be it factory or not, is most likely going to require some adjustments, some severe like adjusting fenders in at the top, some minor like shifting the hood around on the hinges.

pic!

the front hood gap can be seen in this pic I think pretty well...I guess just a latch adjustment is needed? Im worried I would be stressing the hood too much?

You need to lower the rubber stops on the front of the hood and adjust the latch. Otherwise, the hood will sit perfectly
