HR Sport VS Race springs
i'm thinking of lowering a 328xi e92 with HR springs and i was just wondering what the difference in "bumpiness" of the ride is when you compare the HR race and HR sport springs? I don't really want a huge drop or anything, just something that can take away all fender gap. I was considering coilovers but moneys tight right now and i don't think ill look into it that much. I won't be doing any tracking at all, just use this car as a daily driver etc. Also, i plan to use the car for a while or at least it breaks down, will using springs as opposed to coilovers damage the car/ stock shocks over time?
Thanks for all the input. |

well first off. H&R Race definitly gives you a more aggressive slammed look compared to H&R sport. Also if your not changing shocks, and plan to just use stock shocks, specially if you don't have sport package. H&R Race springs will wearout your shocks faster than H&R Sport.
So yes over time it does kill your shocks with either Race or Sport, also your driving style is a factor as well. If you don't want to compromise your ride in the future you can go for H&R sport on koni yellows. I say if you are just looking for minimal drop, I say go for H&R sport. There are a bunch of threads that you can search on how rides look like after dropped on H&R Race and H&R sport

I'd say save up for a coilover setup. You're going to have a tough time daily driving on just springs, and your shocks are bound to go sooner than later. Just my $.02, which many say is worth a fortune

Your other option is to go with coilovers. It gives you more flexibility to raise your car during the winter and lower it during the summer times. Where as Koni yellows, only give you the option to adjust the dampers for stiffness. depending how stiff you want them

yea, lowering+raising the suspensions would help since i live in north van. Does it generally help a lot along with the XI? It won't be pushing snow would it..(if i went with koni)

I'm really not sure how if it helps with an Xi since I don't drive an Xi. Any how, if you go koni yellows and H&R sport it won't be that low of a drop that you would end up plowing snow. Not unless you have a front lip or something like that.

You mind as well get a H&R Touring cup kit and save yourself the pain of having to replace your shocks/struts in the next year or two. The H&R springs were NOT ment to go with OEM struts/shocks. Don't bother with the race springs, especially if you live in Canada.

I know the streets in the LA Area suck so save yourself the trouble and do it the right way just DO NOT get the racing springs, unless you really enjoy that scraping sound. |

I'm sorry but I jacked this thread. I know you answered the OP question but I want to get H&R Sport Springs but I was wondering if I can use my OEM "Sport" struts/shocks. I noticed others in the forum were doing this combo.

I am right now, only have been for a short time so everything is a ok. I have heard others say after 15 or 20k the ride is not as good but who knows. If they need to be changed then so be it, I'll change them then instead of now. I would imagine ZSP would be alot better than just adding springs to regular OEM though...
