I am fairly certain it is different on the E-90, I seem to remember hearing that the E-90's is a screw on wich if I rememer correctly you have to pull up the shifter boot and then twist the shifter off the shaft but not sure about that...

I just swapped out the automatic gear shift and it took about two minutes. the lever pops right off if you pull it up and the leather boot will also pop right out. just pull the leather boot back over the lever holder and insert the new lever into the hole until it clicks in. the leather boot will pop right back into the console. its pretty easy.
