dirty oil change
is the oil supposed to be this black after only 10,000 kms? It's been 9 months since the last one.
The new filter is the yellow one, the old one is black. My dealer was the last one to change my oil, that 1 freebie they give you after one year. I wonder if they actually changed anything. Props to Clairvoyant for helping me change the oil. |

It means the oil was doing its job catching all the moisture and dirt and kept them suspended.

I think this is a strategy by BMW. I know the oil bay is sealed and technology is more advanced but come on, have you seen your used oil after 20k ? I wanted to kill somebody when I saw how bad it is when I made my oil change.
#1 80K maintenance included ? yeah, rather they don't want you in their shops every 3 months. #2 Cars will run a lot more if you'll change the oil every 7500 k for synthetic, especially with the technology and precision internal components are made of for fuel efficiency reasons. They don't want owners to keep their cars for a long time, they want to sell new ones. So how do they make cars break at around the same as the not so advanced cars that do regular oil changes ? Not as much maintenance. Transmission fluid for the life of the vehicule ? Come on. I went to the dealer and asked to make an oil change for my tranny. They tryed to tell me that is not necessary. I asked: Is there a new technology where no heat and no metal parts and gears work together ? they said no; well, change my oil please and thank you. The tranny will last200k but it'll be so expensive to replace a tranny after you'll just want to disscard it and buy a new car. I mean all the other used tranny will be in the same boat. I'll rather spend 300$ avery 4 years and change my tranny fluid. If it breaks, at least I know I did my job. |

I was thinking the same thing...
Thinking since I'm going to keep this new e92 for much longer, maybe I should change my oil every 6mths? Perhaps change with Mobil 1 high viscosity oil in October for the winter months and the regular BMW included reg. viscosity oil in March for the summer? Any thoughts? If so, where's a moderately priced place in the GTA to get this done? I got quoted at Mr. Lube @ $125 (eek!) Thanks for your input! |

Dayum! That is dirty oil!
What's worse now with the E9x is that BMW did away with the dipstick, so we can't even check the colour/condition of the oil even if we wanted to!

I usually change my oil every 12000kms and the filter is almost that dirty...so I guess it all depends how you drove the car the last 9000kms.
I heard stories of dealers not changing oil...or even brake fluid...they just change the brake fluid from the plastic container, but who knows. |

To be honest that oil looks perfectly normal. If you check after 500 km again I'd be surprised if it's not just as black. It's doing its job by picking up deposits in your engine.

Well, you ought to know if they do something [unless you lease the bimmer and don't give a damn].
Actually, I noticed that all they did was "changing the brake fluid from the plastic container" from the brake fluid reservoirs. They didn't bleed the brake cylinders. Maybe because it's too much work since you need 2 people (one to pump the brake pedal and one to bleed) Can someone verify this? |

I was thinking of putting Amsoil synthetic in my tranny the next time. What kind of alien oil you're talking about ? I would like and make some research and see if the Amsoil will meet this alien's spec ! |
