Clearbra worth it?
Guys and gals,
Going to be getting my 335i coupe in the next couple weeks. What I can't decide on is whether clearbra would be worth it. I know the clearbra will protect against paint chipping from pebbles on the road. Will it also enable me to clean off splattered bugs on the front of the car easier also? Appreciate any and all input that anyone can provide. By the way got a quote from a tint shop that will do the full hood for $600 using Ventureshield. Is that a good deal? |

On dark colors,it's ok. On white,it sucks. Edges are a bitch to keep clean and no matter what anyone or manufacturer says, the bra will yellow. |

$600 is a good price for a full hood + front end install. As far as it being worth it, you need to take into account how much you drive, and what kinds of roads you drive on. I drive 20k miles a year or more, and the various freeways around here often have gravel trucks on them. My old car's front end was chipped to hell, so for me, the clearbra is worth it.
I went with venture shield because the installer says it looks better on darker colors (I have sparkling graphite), plus it has a lifetime warranty against defects and yellowing. You still need to keep it clean, but it's not any harder than normal. I usually throw some turtle wax "ice" (clear liquid wax) over it after a wash, which has been working well so far (was recommended by the installer). |

or you can just let it be and after your front bumper gets chipped up you can buy a Mtech front bumper. But then again thats my sick way of doin things.

I'd say it's worth it. It'll save it from bugs and road grime getting caked into the front. Also, the occasional pebble or two may be deflected safely.
Plus, they're almost entirely unnoticeable. I test drove an E46 and walked all around it and checked it for dings and such. At the very end of the ride, the salesman mentioned that the original owner put a clear bra on and it was still there because it helped protect the front. I was surprised to find this out because I had no idea that it was even there! After he told me I noticed the edge of it, but other than that it's like freaking impossible to see. Car was that classic BMW silver, by the way. |

My 335 was delivered in March. It is the best thing I have invested into my car. No regrets here what so ever..... Do it!

Thanks for all the input guys. How bad is the edge? I guess I need to head down to the shop to see cars that have a clearbra on it to see if I like the look or not. Just asking all you guys first before I make the hour journey

I live in Calgary, Canada and after watching my previous car get beat up from the winter gravel, I decided to get a bra on my 335d. I'm not fond of the visibility of the 18" or 24" hood coverage so spent more and had the whole hood and front fenders done. Yeah, it is overkill to protect from chips, but is very hard to tell it is even there so was worth the money for me.

![]() Fully agree and I also had the front bumper, rear of both mirrors and the door handle cups done, as well as some complimentary door edge guards. Cost more, but much better than all those dam paint nicks/dings from rocks, etc

Do it!
I look at it this way, I spent almost 50K on my car, what's $700 to save the paint on the front end, especially in a place like Arkansas, we've got some serious bugs here.

Totally worth it - IF you can find a good installer that uses quality product. But don't kid yourself, anyone who says they can't see it or don't notice it is visually challenged! I have NEVER seen an install - even on some very expensive cars that wasn't completely obvious from closer than 5-10ft. Especially on the hood. There's no way to hide the line.
There is a part of me that thinks that it's a bit like your parents or grandparents putting plastic on their sofa. You pay $$ and deal with the look only so you can turn in a nicer car to the next guy..... |

How many of you have had a car long enough with the clear bra and had it taken off and a new one put on? I hear it's a huge pain, cleaning, residue, etc.....

I also think it's completely worth it. This is the first car I've had done and I haven't had any complaints. FWIW I got my hood, front bumper, head lights, fog lights, door edges and fenders done. I don't think it's terribly noticeable on the Space Grey either.

I have it... so far so good.
I just got my first rock chip the other day, it just missed the clear bra right where it ends on the hood . ![]() If you maintain your car well, you can keep the debris out from the edges. As far as yellowing I havnt had it long enough, but from what I hear, maintenance is key. Regular polishing and waxes/sealents should help. Also as the TS asked, it will make it easier to clean bugs, I just use quick detailer on the clear bra areas. |

I have it on my car and it's great, especially if you live anywhere where there's winter or if you do any highway driving.
If I had to do it again, I'd get the whole hood done instead so there aren't any lines visible. |
