it's a fix it ticket

meaning: FIX IT
take it off
go to them, pay your fine, then go put them back

if you have a good relation with the shop they should put it on for cheaper

my cousin had paid 120 for his tints originally and I think only 40 to put them back on

but you need to take them off
btw IF the sherrif ever gives me a ticket when i get my tints, can your friend sign off on mine?
I'll pay him :P
I'd rather pay him a little than have to go through the trouble of getting them off and on again..

I just got a (second) ticket last week also. I thought that if you have somebody you know sign it off that it doesn't have to be removed anymore. Just present the write off to the court or whoever and pay the $10 or $15. Am I mistaken?
Also when I got my first tint ticket 2 years ago, they sent me a fine for $90. I gladly payed it without taking off my tint. It probably would've cost more to have it removed, checked, then reapplied.

However, does anybody know if it does anything to the driving record? A coworker brought up a good point, maybe CA is looking for the stupidest things to fine people for to help with the tremendous budget deficit. Made total sense to me.

Actually, the tint situation pertains to safety. It's in the jurisdiction's interest to police dark tints. While you would rather pay a fine -- and I am sure that California would be happy to take it -- it (California) would rather you make the car safer.

That's why we're not able to just throw money at the situation.

Got a ticket for window tints a few weeks ago. I went to a shop to have it taken off for $10, then went to a local sheriff department to have the ticket signed off. The officer said he couldn't do it and told me that I would have to go to the Alhambra Traffic Court.

After a week, I went back to the same sheriff department to try to have the ticket signed off. I waited 10 minutes until an officer showed up and he told me to wait for another officer. Another 10 minutes passed, finally another officer came out to check on the windows. He then signed off the ticket and told me that since I waited over 20 minutes, he would not charge me a dime.

Next day, I mailed out the ticket along with a $25 processing fee to the traffic court. Case closed.

I would understand that if it was really dark but the windows are tinted to 35% I can see right thru the car... The cop also warned me About going 4 mph over.. Come on really..? This is sad when they have cme to this level.

Sounds like you got a dick of a cop. Additionally, while the tint laws are mostly for safety, I think we can all surmise that as the tint goes darker, police are less able to see in our cars. If they can't see in our cars, they're unable to see what we might be doing wrong in there as well.

do your tint shops do retints? the place i go to does retints if its all scratched up (cuz i roll down the windows a lot to save gas and i dont ever touch the ac) so if they do retints, they could take it off and have them wait like a day to put it back on right? i have lifetime warranty and i get free retints. the place i go to is cali-tint. costs $120 for each car, $115 if youve had a car tinted there before (could just barrow a friend's receipt)

I just received this ticket in the mail from CHP. (when he pulled me over he just took my information and said "You're getting a ticket in the mail") Anyways, the "No" box is checked under Correctable Violation. WTF?! Is it because this is my second one? I thought these were always fix it tickets. The fine is $164. I was thinking of still trying to get it signed off and present it to the court to avoid the full fine. Is this BS or what?

Yea I got mine in the mail without him metering/ mentioning anything about it when I got pulled for speeding. Got one in the mail the next day with court letter.

I read that some officers can be real assholes and decide not to give you a fix it because it is at their discretion, if they feel you cannot get it fix they can check not correctable. And also hearing they keep a dmv record for fix its and 2nd offenses etc, it can lead to a non correctable violation if the officer wants to make it noncorrectable when pulling up your previous offenses.

But anyways, I read that people who got a noncorrectable violation, just went to the clerk and acted confused as to why they didnt get a fix it option, then tell them you got it fixed but there was no option for $25. and the clerk said "yea it should be a fix it ticket" so they will change it to a fix it. (Just dont mention you getting a ticket for tint before)

But if not, just take it to court and im thinking the judge will allow you to fix the windows.

Hope everything goes well, good luck!

Whether you can see through the windows is not the point....the point is that CA has a law (regardless of whether you like it or not) that you are obliged to obey and the cops are within their right to issue you a citation should they determine you are in violation of that law. You have the legal right to refute their claim of your violation in a court if you so desire.

While safety as goes your ability to see through the windows is somewhat relevant, the safety issue has more to do with the cops being able to see easily what/who is inside your car. It's for their safety should they stop you that the tint rule exists.

Your point about speeding 4 mph over the posted limit is just as pointless. The speed limits are not ranges, they are precise measures in excess of which one is speeding. If you feel that the law should be rewritten to define speed limits as being "between x and y mph," you should initiate a move to have that be a referendum topic in your state's next election. For now, however, you must simply accept the fact that regardless of how much over the speed limit you are speeding, you are nonetheless speeding and therefore at risk for receiving a citation for having done so. You can eliminate that risk entirely by driving within the posted limits or by not driving at all.

Act like an adult, take responsibility for your own choices and their consequences, and stop crying about the fact that you took a risk and got caught.
