Nitto NT-05
Have any of you tried this tire? If so, what are your thoughts on this vs the Z1 Star Spec?

A few of us run NT01's on the track and they are great. Long life for an R-compound and great performance. However, not good in the rain and very, very noisey. I heard the NT-05 is a simliar design but better for daily driving and in the rain. Good luck and let us know if you end up getting them!

can't compare but he Direzza is a brilliant tire for the track and great in the rain. I was able to get about 12 track days out of them before they went south on me. They were predictable and consistent also.
For reference I go just under 2:00 at Infineon with TC Kline suspension. |

I also really liked the Dunlops! The RE-01R's are also pretty good. But with Nitto marketing this tire as an alternative I though I might give it a go. I'm looking forward to feedback on the NT05.

I loved these tires. I managed to break the car loose, all 4 tires, in a slide and the tires re-engaged grip with no drama.
I stand by my earlier statement though, they are smelly tires. |

+1 on the smell. I run them for daily use and when i take the car out to the canyons, they start to smell pretty bad after some abuse. Love the grip but it gets a little smelly.

I've just never seen a tire described as smelling bad. I believe you but it is somewhat odd!

I'm on my second set of Z1 SS. Ok, they are not smelly. Great, got that out of the way. I am running them on my 335xi. 245/40/17 on Kosei K1 17s. I have coilovers that are set lightly aggressive from default setting for bump and rebound. The car is also lowered 2.5cm rear and 1.8cm front. Camber is within standard ratings for the XI. Car has shitloads of undsteer. The tires will let you know at all times when you are at the limits. Good predictable tire, decent holding strength in the corners. Very noisy tire, so as a daily driver you may want to go with another tire. I use my SS Z1 strictly for the track and they have held solid for 10 track days. They will likely last for another 4 or 5 events depending on the track.
These tires as they warm up past what feels like their limit, exhibits a sloppier feel on the track. Almost like they are a little greasy. In the wet, they have been pretty good. They equal and better my Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (which doesnt say much for the F1 GS-D3s). Better then I expected, but then again, I have AWD. As a daily driver the SS Z1 \ suffer a little tram lining with the tire/wheel combo. Nothing bad and after an driving a little you get used to it. All in all: Pros - Inexpensive, sticky, predictable, good feedback, track worthy tires and decent in the wet. Cons: Noisey for daily use, moderate tram lining configured on Kosei K1 17s as 245/40/17. As they overheat they lose their integrity. Summed up: Best bang for the buck. Will try AD08 as next tire before trying R based. Cheers.
