HELP! Streaks won't come off!

Ok so I've been using that wheel cleaner for my chrome rims. You're supposed to spray it on, leave it for 15 seconds and wipe it off.

Well I sprayed it on before I ran my car through the touchless wash, it washed and before I could get to drying them they dried on their own because I was busy drying my actual car. There are streaks that I simply CANNOT get off now. I've tried everything. I tried water, I tried Windex, I even tried vinegar! lol.

Any suggestions anyone? How can I get these streaks off my chrome rims??

bummer bro. find some real chrome cleaner, not spray on wheel cleaner. I hope you didn't burn your finish!

I have a feeling you might be screwed. We had one genius in the firehouse spray wheel cleaner on a wheel before a parade and it sat for over half an hour before getting washed/polished off. To this day, that engine still has streaks on that one wheel, and just about everything was done to try and remove them... Every year for chief's inspection a new handful of people try to fix it, it's not coming out. What he used etched itself into the chrome. Some of those cleaners are pretty abrasive, soap and water is the easiest way to get the wheels clean.. Good luck.. Maybe contact the manufacturer and ask them for advice?

If the chrome is clear coated you've eaten through the clear; you need to sand it off and polish the wheels. Your wheels will likely oxidize much more quickly, so you'll have to re-polish them often. If they are not clear coated you will need to polish them pretty heavily to remove the staining. I suggest a good chrome polish and a lot of elbow grease.

Do not use wheel cleaners on chrome wheels, generally even "chrome safe" ones can be acidic or caustic; you're better off using a wheel sealant and then washing the wheels with soap and water.

Phew. I went to Checker Auto Parts and this guy knew all about chrome rims, dabbed some NevrDull on my rims and wiped. They came right off! No elbow grease even necessary.

PHEW!!
