Does anyone train in Jiu Jutsu?

I've been thinking about taking a few classes a week but don't have any idea where to look for a good trainer/training center.

Does anyone here train? I wouldn't mind anything in the Los Angeles area, anywhere outside is too far for weekdays.

I want to take some calsses badly. Not necessarily Jui Jitsu but any type of MMA would be awesome. I wonder if ROTC covers anything?

Yeah, that's a legendary name. Basically put BJJ on the map when Royce went against Shamrock in UFC 1.

It's kinda far from the OP's place though. Going to be a good 35-40 min drive with no traffic.

I looked into BJJ as well, but there's none around my area, the closest I found was on the west side of the valley, Woodland Hills. So I went with Muay Thai instead since there's a great gym that's only 5 mins from my house.

If you want the best all around MMA gym that's still local, Randy Couture's place is in Hollywood. The rate is $$ though.

WJ4, where do you train in Burbank? Is it the boxing place on San Fernando? I really like BJJ, but have been considering Muay Thai as well. There is a place I found in Alhambra which would be like 15 minutes away from work.

I actually train in North Hollywood, at Muay Thai Academy AKA the first Muay Thai gym in the country. It's a small gym, but the staff is great. The teachers are former pro Muay Thai boxers from Thailand.

The price is great too. It's $100/month...for unlimited. You can go as many times per month as you want. Here is the site...

http://muaythaiacademy.net/main.htm

A lot of the folks who train there fight too, so when there's an event...a good amount of the students meet up to go see it. Some pix a student took at events...

You will get some sort of injuries sooner or later though. This happened to me on the regular basis, this one happened when I was holding Thai pads for a pretty strong kicker. It didn't hurt that much, just looked really bad.

Essentially Muay Thai changed my life. It gave me the discipline to stay fit. I know that sounded corny, but it's true. I took up Muay Thai after I came back from Thailand last summer. I was the biggest I've been my whole life, at 210 lbs. Within 6 months of doing Muay Thai about 3-5 times a week (and a proper eating habit), I was able to lose about 50 lbs. I haven't gone back in several months because now I don't have the time for it, but I plan to eventually.

The first picture was me before starting Muay Thai, in summer vacation in Thailand, and the 2nd picture was me 6 months afterward. The last picture to the right was about 2 days ago.

The class is about an hour and 15 mins long. It starts with warm up...stretching, jump rope, and running routines. You go work with body pads and Thai pads. The class ends with 3 rounds of sparring and a cool down exercise.

The point of me joining isn't really to stay fit, as I work out frequently 6 days a week. I just want to put apply my strength to a martial art. Muay Thai was my second choice and it seems hardcore. Injuries are inevitable in any sport and it's a learning experiencing really, so it's fun . What days do you attend? I would love to check this place out, what times do you go?
