warranty issues

I have to bring in my car for regular free maintenance next month.

I read in the Canadian Forum not too long ago that dealer charged someone extra for brakes replacement etc... when the car is in for warranty service work.

how do I avoid being over charged by the dealer?
what proactive approach do I use?
or
does the dealer have authority to change parts on your car without telling you and bill you when pickup.
they can always say its not safe if its not done.....BS.

please help!

I generally like to know what's going on when I take my car in, so I leave them my cell number, work number and email address, and make it absolutely clear that I want the SA to call me after their diagnostics or initial QC checks. I believe that's on my file now and they call me before any work is done. That way, there's no surprises.

Oh, I also put a HUGE "DO NOT WASH" sign on the dash...lol.

they can't do that....
tell them first if there is anything required for replacement, that they will need to contact you first.. and they will do that.
I changed my rotor/pads for all front/rear.... cost me $900 flat by local mechanic....
BMW wanted to charge me $1200 + tax.

I wish this would happen!
You'd get free brakes

A shop can not charge you afterwards for work you did not previously authorize.

Plus, a shop can not hold your car because they deem it unsafe, it's your private property.

Brake job is NOT PART OF THE STANDARD CANADIAN WARRENTY.

Brake fluid change maybe covered.

jk. Just make it clear to them that you don't want anything other than the warranty service work. They can't force you to do any service.
