The new Wavetrac® is a helical-gear limited-slip differential, but unlike other gear differentials, the Wavetrac® was designed from a clean sheet using state-of-the-art knowledge and engineering to be a better differential than any other.

This will fit the manual and automatic transmissions

Please note, some ring gears are welded to the differential on these BMW vehicles. A new ring gear may have to be purchased from BMW and welded to the new Wavetrac differential.

Updated info from Wavetrac

Ring gears are welded to the differential on the 1 and 3 series vehicles made after March of 2007. A new ring gear may have to be purchased from BMW and welded to the new Wavetrac differential.

Special combo pricing for the diff + ring gear (or rather everything needed for a full swap on welded diffs) would ROCK!

You have a PM, but I'll reply here as well for everyone else in the post. Any 1 or 3 series built after March of 2007 will have a welded diff. This means you will have to purchase a new ring gear from BMW to use with the Wavetrac diff or have an installer take the ring gear off your BMW diff and use it with the Wavetrac.

That is correct, any car with a build date of before March 2007 should be fine.

We are unable to get the ring gear. Now if people are interested, we can recommend a shop where you could send your diff and the Wavetrac and they could do the installation
