Anyone in Maryland get the new IPOD interface?

Went to dealer today to order the IPOD interface. They had no idea what I was talking about until they looked at the bulletin board. Ordered the part. I guess I will be the guinea pig. I hope they dont screw up.

What dealership did you go to?

I plan on getting the interface but I was going to wait a little while for the service depts to familiarize themselves with the installation. So if your the guinea pig... be sure to let me know how it went.

BMW of Towson. I wish I could look over there shoulders when they do the work. They charged me full price for the part. Will try to recoup on the labor.

BMW of Darien just quoted $320 for the part and $150 for labor... i think $470 is a bit much for a cable....

I just sent a request for quote from the guys at Tischer in Silver Spring.
I'll let you know what they say... still it sounds like a LOT... but I want it.

Tischer BMW has the following prices:
parts: $255.96 (BMW CCA discount)
labor: $326.85 (they want 3 hours to install)

As of today, they have 5 units.

I want it, but I'm not paying around $600 for this mod.

another 2-3 weeks for BMW of Arlington, Va

just talked to my dealer today. my car just reached port in NY today and should arrive sometime next week. i ordered a factory alarm to be installed during PDI and inquired about the ipod MOST interface.

the guys at service/parts did not seem that knowledgeable. he gave me a quote for an E46 after i told him that i have (uh, will have) an e90. my salesperson seemed to know about it and said probably another 2-3 weeks for it to come in. sorry, couldn't get any pricing info.

Anyone have luck pushing back on a dealer that quoted > 1 hour for labor? Does showing them the official bulletin help?

It's not only a question of it being up to the dealer but if they haven't done it before, they have to see how long it takes (not that they'll charge for 6 hours if the first one takes that long but I doubt they will charge for one hour).

The 1 hour is a recommendation from BMW. It happens to be wildly optimistic as one can occupy one hour simply by disassembling and reassembling the dash carefully

I have the interface, but I am going to hold out also.

BTW, does anyone think BMW will resolve some of the issues that are built into the interface?

Will pick up my 330i tuesday from BMW of Towson. I told them not to screw my car up being I am the guinea pig. He said if anything in wrong just bring it back. He did explain that they installed a lot of the "OLD" interfaces in X3's and M3's. You have to trust the dealer at some point. thats what warranties and loaners are for.

do you have access to GT1 or DISplus to do the software? Otherwise, how could it be done DIY style?

looks like i'm going to be the guinea pig for the MOST adaptor at the BMW of Arlington dealership. my car came in last tuesday and they've had it all week cause they can't do a simple alarm installation. the funny thing is, i sent them an e-mail a month ago detailing the PROGMAN 23 issue but they completely ignored it. the service manager is completely untrustworthy, claiming he's left messages when my phone doesn't even show a missed call.

anyway, i'm thinking of doing it while the car is still there and get it done with. can't believe i waited 6 weeks, let the dealer keep it for another, and still have not yet laid eyes upon my car. they're charging $319.95 for the MOST ipod adaptor and 1 hour labor at $115.

but i got to warn you of the hassle... i've played phone tag with the service department all week, speaking to 3 different people regularly. no one will return your calls, it's very frustrating. i'd recommend going elsewhere so far. Will have more to report on Monday... hopefully things will get better.

I *really* appreciate this info. I was gonna take my car to BMW Arlington for the IPOD install. Now, I think I'll go to Passport BMW instead -- although I've no idea if they'll be better if not even worse. Best of luck.

just got a call and, surprise, they don't have PROGMAN 23 as they originally thought ("it just came in!"), so i will have to bring the car back in (hopefully) 2 weeks to have the alarm activated. Maybe then, i'll get the interface.

will keep you posted....

see my thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29278

It was not easy but i was able to get this installed for ONE hours labor. I doubt my dealership will quote anyone else one hour for this. Im sure it was as big a headache for them as it was for me

well, I could really limit the 3+ hours of install time by doing the wiring myself. THen I would just need a programming session at the dealership.

Much more feasable financially...
