Delivery Miles
Hi
Just got a build date of week commencing 11-09-06 (11th Sept) for my 335. The dealer said excitedly it would be 'one of the first 335's they get in'. Now, I'm a little concerned the dealer staff will be taking my new car for a spin or demo-ing it, what shall I do? Youre advice will be very welcome. I know that VW (my current car is an R32 golf) can reset the mileage of new cars - only a set number of times and below a certail mileage, can this be done in beemers? BTW to date, since ordering at least, my dealer has been s**t, not returning calls etc... so I'm not that that confident of my dealers integrity! Thanks in advance, Harry

Make sure you are there the day it arrives or wait for it at the dealer. You should be able to track it. You could go and visit him and explain to him your concerns and for not calling you back.

They shouldn't since it is a customers car. I'm in the same boat as you as mine should be in the first batch getting to my dealer. I haven't talked to my CA about this yet but will bring it up when it gets closer to delivery.

My M was delivered a few weeks ago w/ 7 miles on the clock. This seems to be the norm when people are taking delivery of their BMW's. The only time it should be drivin is on/off the line, on/off the truck, rail car, and boat. Dont forget after the car is done being built it's put in a dyno to make sure everything is OK. Anything more than 10 miles would raise a flag for me.

I was concerned about somebody test driving my car too, but at my dealer, it didn't happen. I ordered my car April of last year and it arrived mid-July of last year. I didn't take delivery until I got back from Hawaii on the 31st of July. The car sat in the lot unprepped until I a couple of days before I got back.
My car had 3 or 4 miles on it when I picked it up. Danny Quote:

Thanks for replys to date.
Does anyone have info regarding resetting mileage - I know for sure reliably this IS possible with VW's, can it be done in beemers?

I was under the impression that it's illegal to test drive an already sold car. Makes sense anyway.
On the dealer thing, I learned a long time ago that you should *never* be unhappy with your dealer. There are way too many CA's out there to be stuck with one you don't like. |

Not sure what the rules are in the UK but it is illegal in the states to alter the mileage.

As I understand it, this is not officially tampering with the mileage. It is OK to alter the delivery miles on VW's provided:
There is a limited number of times it can be reset It can only be reset upto a certain mileage. I was surprised to hear this, but apparently (AT LEAST IN THE UK) it is true, do BMW allow this? Any BMW tekkies out there?

BMW doesnt make i possible for dealers to reset the milage, or dissconect the milage meter
The car has a bit more on it than people think, because the counter actually starts at a negative number at the factory, becasue the car has to go on the dyno there and the small test track, and then onto the trains, onto the boats, off the trains and boats ect ect But again, the dealer cannot reset it I do know VW dealers CAN reset their cars ONCE if the milage hasnt gone over a certain amount ( pretty low, less than 100 miles )

When I pick up my car in Munich it has only 2 ml. Add transportation "to" and "from" ship, train, etc. I think 5-8 ml will be totally normal.

This is from my CA today:
Nobody will drive your car for a joy ride – other than the technician in his/her required shake down. Actually, BMW requires a 15 mile test drive, but nobody listens to them. The fact that your car had 12 miles doesn’t mean joy rides were taken. I’ve had new cars come off the truck with as much as 24 and as little as 0. Yep, 0. As a rule they run 5 to 10 miles off the truck. So naturally, I had to check into the 0 odometer thing and found this out. The actual odometer in a new BMW is set at something like 999,997 when placed in a new car. When they come off the production line they go for a quick drive around some track before being parked. By the time they reach a dealer the average mileage is 9 to 10 but shows 6 to 7 on the odo. |
