Same 3 CODES return AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
My car has been getting the limp mode AGAIN almost daily or even several times a day. I even just got it twice today on the way to get my haircut.
I've had these 3 codes before: 1) 2ABC Charging pressure sensor, electrical 2) 3100 boost-pressure control, deactivation 3) 29DC Cylinder injection switch-off I posted a topic on this several months ago. At that time I was using the Extension cable for my JB3. Terry suggested that I remove the extension cable and the problems went away....NO MORE codes. (here is the thread for that http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...2abc+extension) About 2 months ago I installed AR catless DP's as well. Didn't have any problems after that either. So far I have the DP's, DCI, JB3 (latest version), and Forge DV's as the major upgrades. About a week and a half ago I start getting intermittent limp modes. NONE while I am actually driving fast or doing anything crazy. Usually just cruising around. Once I was even at a red light and I got the limp mode while sitting there. I've read the comments of others who have had this and they have changed their HPFP and it did not fix the problem. I do not want to jump right away to conclusions of HPFP problems, as many of you may suggest. Let me make a list as to possible problems of what I suspect. 1) I live in Vegas and its 110 degree weather here. All these limp modes happened while it was over 105 outside. But my car was not overheated and temps were fine. 2) I have the check engine light on for a month now, probably because I havent installed the O2 sims after getting my DP's. Could that be it?? Dunno 3) I have been running Map 7 since getting my DP's, but I am on 91 octane. Didnt have a problem the first few weeks...so why start now? Could this be the problem? 4) HPFP? my car starts just fine. i dont have to crank the engine or anything. I have abour 25000 miles on the car 5) could it be a combination of all of the above? why dont i get the limp modes when the temp outside is less than a 100? I'll clear the codes, and change to map 5 and add the o2 sensors and see if that'll make a difference even in the high heat. could be as simple as me running map 7 on 91 octane.

i've had the JB3 in for a long time. I doubt that it will start causing problems now. I las updated the JB3 months ago with the latest 1.3 version. never had problems. First I am going to change to Map 5 now and go drive around to see if i still get a limp mode.

ok..update
i erased all the codes and switched to map 5. still on 91 octane. i wnt out for a drive. drove aggressively for a few miles and then drove home slowly following speed limit. its 107 degrees outside. i was at the light right before my house and got a limp mode. wasnt even moving. i ran the BT again and it only shows 2 codes this time. the 2ABC and the 3100 boost pressure control. the 29DC wasnt there

you are running in a hot environment + using maps for octane levels higher than what u got in the tank... this is a recipe for disaster. Stay on map 3 until you get better gas! Map 4+ is for 93 octane or higher.

I think I know what the problem is. I forwarded BMS your post, so as always, contact BMS for technical support and they will help you resolve it.
Thanks Mike |

I live in Vegas and haven't gotten any codes from hot weather. I don't think this has anything to do with hot weather. I agree with the others as far as using a map meant for 93+ Octane in town. Unless you are using 100 octane from the Rebel stations I don't think the 91' is a good idea.

I completely agree, but in this case these codes have nothing to do with octane or boost levels. 2ABC means the DME lost communication with the JB3 boost signal, and 29DC means the DME lost communication with the JB3 fuel pressure signal. These are the only replicated signals, so they point to the JB3 losing power. Which would explain why OP experienced the codes at idle, for example. So it is either wiring or hardware related. BMS will need to walk him through the troubleshooting process. I checked with BMS and they haven't heard from him. Sometimes I wonder why people waste their time with support threads like this when the solution is a 15 second email to the manufacturer? BMS replies to emails within an hour or two, often much faster, even on weekends.

Intermittent Limp Modes
I"m experiencing a similar issue. Bought my 08 335i from a private party last summer with 11500 miles on it. First day got a limp mode while driving in traffic. Cleared with a shutdown and restart. Occurred again 3 months ago in slow traffic. Again reset on restart. By that time I had a BT and read the codes: 2ABC, 2AAF, 2DED, 3100, 29DC. Several of these are listed in Mike's posting as probably culprits and indicate either hardware or wiring issue. Since it cleared, let all alone. It occurred again yesterday while at idle at Drive-Thru. Since I'm on travel and forget the BT, I'll have to check when I get home this weekend. I'm still on the Gen 1 PnP hardware and regardless its time to upgrade.
Never has appeared to occur when going over rough road as you would expect for something loose. |
