Factory CD Changer

Driving to work this morning, I find that my factory cd changer in the trunk doesn't seem to be working anymore. Idrive doesn't seem to recognize it and i can't even eject the magazine out.

Anyone else have this problem?

Dealer wants $800 installed for a new one.

I had a similar issue with my CD changer and the dealer replaced the unit no questions asked. If the CD changer was installed at the factory or by a BMW dealer it should be covered under warranty (presuming that you are still within the warranty period).

Considering the fact that a new one is $500, $800 installed seems ok. Otherwise, source one from Tischer or other BMW parts place online (salvaged or new), and ask the dealer to install it (or a BMW independent shop) and I think you maybe able to save a bit of money.

I'm cheap and could live w/o the cd changer in the rear. =) I was thinking of getting a used one but they're pretty rare. I know you can find used examples for around $250, thats if you can find one. I'm thinking of maybe investing in a ipod unit instead.

I thinking the same thing. I'll let my engineer buddy tinker with it and see if its just some loose wiring/connection. The dealers usually don't have the patience to tinker with these things especially if its out of warranty. They don't even bother and just ask you to replace it.
