How many Porsches can you fit on a plane?

31 to be exact.

Here are some shots of the new Panameras getting loaded onto a cargo plane for a flight to the US. The cars are going to be press vehicles.

Not uncommon.

I work for a large global producer of Ag / Construction equipment.

We were releasing a brand new model Combine at a trade show in France. All the top European Dealers were invited including some heads of state. Manufacturing back in the midwest dropped the ball and was behind schedule. Ultimately when manufacturing finally released the units to ship to me (logistics) I had less than 3 weeks to move them from Nebraska to France.

One option explored was airfreight. Seems the Russian Antonov Cargo plane is the only one in the world capable of such large cargo and could accomodate 2 combines in her belly. We were quoted $450,000 for transport via air.

In the end, we ended up chartering a vessel line from Baltimore to meet our needs. Still quite costly, but could ship all 8 units on board and made the required delivery date.

So this is where all the money went... Porsche spending too much money on fancy stuff... to the point of being bought by VW.

Remember a few months back when they lifted a Panamera up to the 94th floor in Shanghai? Just for a press conference...

I doubt the cars are for customers unless they paid extra for air service. I suspect the cars are demos for dealers or for some Porsche event. I know when my friend purchased his F430; the dealer gave him an option of having his car shipped from Italy by air and from what I remember it wasn’t too expensive. I know Lambo and other exotic car manufactures offer similar services because the first LP640 purchased in Canada was shipped from Frankfurt onboard a commercial Lufthansa A340-600.

I remember once waiting in line to board a lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to LA, there were 2 Maserati 4200 Spyder being loaded in on of the luggage compartments. It was definately a strange sight, cars right next to suitcases.
