Whats the best tires to replace the OEM run flats?

I already replaced one tire at 4,000 miles and second tire has a bubble in it... What tires did you replace your run flats with? Please list the brand and model numbers because I will never buy run flats ever again. That includes not buying a BMW if they still use them in the future.

Assuming you're looking for summers?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=101

I'll be getting the Goodyear Asymmetrics in a couple days.

How much are they... Can you send me a link, because I caught a flat in a thunder storm and I had no choice but to go to teh nearest dealer because stores don't have run flats in stock. Anywho the dealer banged me out for 450$ installed. I have a friend in the tire business and said he'll do my other one for 350$ installed. Either way my tires have about 4000 miles on them and I will have to spend 800$ to replace the 2 fronts which is BULLSH!T.

I want some all seasons very good quality tires. Heck, they can't be more then the run flats. Even if they are I won't have to replace them every few months like the run flat son of a guns.

Meh. S5 is a heavy underpowered boat that can't back up it's looks. Nice GT cruiser but that's about it.

Ditch the run flats and it will run smoother. Try some Goodyear F1 Asymmectrics, best tire for the price. PS2's are good but are over priced and wear quite fast.

haha, You sure you know what you're talking about? Last time I checked BMW was known for their suspension/steering feel. You want a soft floater? Get a Lexus

The latest C&D test on tires did show that, using non runflat PS2's. But the thing is we probably don't want to throw something on lesser than what came with the car. Hankooks were really good bang-for-buck (#2), but would you truly want to put them on a BMW?

My 2nd set of tires will be the PS2's (ouch that will ding my wallet big big time), but after that, who knows? Maybe Hankooks.

Yeah, that's it, it's the suspension. Not you banging through NYC bus-eater potholes.

BMW suspensions are world renowned for sucking.

I think the suspension on BMW's are awesome on my drive to Atlantic City but being in NYC completely sucks. I can't drive the car the way its meant to be driven. I have my eyes to the ground dodging land mines.

There is always someone that feels obligated to put a "get a Lexus" post in any thread that criticizes a BMW suspension. I have an SCCA competition license and have competed in the Skip Barber Series. I also own a dedicated track car, compete in BMWCCA club racing events and am a member of the Club at Lime Rock. If you think you know more about suspensions and performance than I do I will give you a chance to prove it. I will bet I can get around a track faster than you can. Are you willing ton put $10,000 up to show that I don't know what I am talking about?

I will be at Lime Rock on Friday in a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale. You are welcome to come and observe how little I know about suspensions.

+1

The suspension is excellent on highways and on the back roads of New England. It is horrible on poor surfaces. There are other cars (including the M3) that have a much better balance between performance and comfort.

There are posts all over this forum and others that back up my contention that there is a problem with the 3 Series sport suspension. There is no excuse for the poor performance of a 3 series on bad surfaces. I recently test drove an M3 which outperforms the 335 and does not have the "pothole explosions" problem.

P.S. Why is your signature "Dumbass"? Childhood nickname?

I'm no racer, and my E91 doesn't have sport package, but although it can take smooth curves with less body roll than my old plain-Jane E46T, it cannot handle residential speed humps at all like the E46 could. Yeah I know the car isn't made for speed humps, but I got em in my neighborhood anyway (I don't mean round-top parking lot speed bumps a foot deep, I mean flat-topped street speed humps that are half a carlength deep with a crosswalk down the middle). I used to hit a speed hump in my E46 at 15 mph and if I timed it right, the E46 would absorb it firmly with perfect damping on compression and rebound. No upset, no topout, and no bottomout on landing.

At a rolling 10 mph (or else the E90's front end will bottom out on impact), the front of the car launches into the air, the suspension tops out, and then the front end bottoms out on landing with a boom. It reminds me of my dad's '67 DeVille.

Like I said yeah I know the E90 isn't an offroad X5, and I'm not talking about sharp-edged potholes that make the RFTs BANG, but I don't understand how the suspension can do such a great job on micro-damping while cruising around imperfect sweepers, yet the damping is awful on major compression/rebound. The E91 shocks are as bad as the stock shocks on my R1200RT were until I got a pair of Ohlins.

The car has a real Jeckyl and Hyde personaility. Last week I drove from NYC to Kent, Ct. On the way out of the city (FDR Drive, Willis Ave. Bridge, etc. it was a totally unpleasant drive. Once I got out of the city and onto the highway and particularly on the twisties of rural Ct. the car drove great. Exactly what I would expect of a BMW. I am hoping that the next generation 3 series will have a cockpit adjustable suspension so that we can have the best of both worlds.

P.S. There is an article by Mike Harley on Autoblog.com where he tests the new generation Bridgestone RFTs. He feels that the ride quality issue has been solved.

Don't know about getting a Lexus. My old 03 IS300 has a pretty rough suspension like my 06 330i. I heard Falken 452's are great tires. I plan on getting some soon. I'm also sick and tired of the Flintstone concrete run flats that I am currently on.

If your car is lowered to the piont that the inside of your tires are wearing, I would get a tire that has a tread you can rotate right to left (inside right to outside left) .... like the FK452. If you don't care about that that type of rotation, the RE-11's are awesome.

Those of you recommending summer tires are failing to notice the OP said:

While I can't recommend anything off-hand, I can say absolutely do not get the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S. Tests on paper were fantastic but despite the silent recall to take care of existing customers and promise that the new batch is fine, I'm not sure I trust this model yet.
