Cool Attn AMEX Platinum Cardmembers - Free $300 credit

Just got my $450 renewal fee tacked onto my bill this month. I called AMEX and told them I wanted to downgrade to the regular gold card because I didn't use the platinum services all that much and $450 is a little steep. The nice lady told me that they have a 'special promotion for qualifying members' for a $300 or 30,000 mile credit to their bill to keep the platinum card. I took the $300.
Just thought I'd pass on the info.

Thats cool, i just dont believe in paying for the "privilege" of using a cc. That being said last year i opened up an Amex card and it had no fee for a gold card. If they wont waive my fee so i pay zero i just cancel the account.

Good to know. I figured they'd be hurting a little on pay memberships.

Their personalized services are excellent and well worth the few extra bucks if you travel or attend any events... IMHO anyhow...

AMEX platinum is an amazing card, customer service treats you like a billionaire...(Even if your not one).

The concierge and travel services can be very useful. They've gotten me on some flights at the last minute where the airline couldn't or wouldn't help. The lounge access is great too.

I love that when you call them, you get a friendly, intelligent American on the line within 60 seconds, every time.

You can live debt free and use credit cards. Clearly you have never had an AmEx. You make your purchases every month and make a single full payment at the billing due date.

one of the best parts of having the card. Knowing that you must pay in full every month keeps your spending in check.

To follow up, I was charged with my membership renewal a few weeks ago. I called them about it and they said they would not waive the fee.

I told them the only reason I got the Platinum card was for the free companion tickets for airlines. Blah blah blah,

I got no where and ended up getting a gold card again.

I never used any of the feature with the platinum. The only thing it does for me is make me look cool, i guess.
