Recommendations on next car
I'm in charge of seeking out a new car for my in-laws.
Here's the deal - They're in a 06 Lexus ES now and the lease is up in 3 months. They like my BMW 3 series, but want a front wheel drive or all wheel drive for their next ride. They will most likely lease (they write it off aginast their business) and look to spend about $600 a month on the lease. My in-laws has traditionally liked Japanese cars, but are flexible. Since I'm the son-in-law and like cars, they're putting me in charge of seeking out the next vehicle. Cars only - they don't like SUVs My Short list: BMW 525IX or 535 ix Mercedes 350 4 matic Hyundai Genesis Cadillac CTS 4 wheel drive Infiniti M35 all wheel drive Audi A6 Am I missing any cars that you would recommend? I'm obviously somewhat biased to the BMW, but am seeking any and all opinions....

I think they will fall for the Genesis if they drive it and they are discounting now. No awd but a great bang for the buck.
Easily under 600??? |

I think the only car(s) that my be over 600 /month lease is the Merc and the 5 series 535 version ( the 525 version will be right around 600/month) All other cars have very strong dealer promos going on....

If they like their ES they should check out the Genesis. Not that they're similar, I just think that the Genesis will probably ride softer than the others. Also a relative bargain.

I didn't think the Genesis came AWD... it is rear wheel only I think.
If they like Japanese they should check out the new Legacy. Probably drives closest to the BMW and good value. Of the cars on your list I would say the CTS is a winner. My neighbours have both a 535xi and a CTS-4. They are in their mid-fifties and say they prefer the Cadillac hands down. Small survey sample but interesting result I would not have predicted. |

An other ES or a TL. Let's be honest here in terms of reliability can't beat the japanese.

The CTS-4 is a great car. I really like how the 3.6DI trim looks.

I mean 5s are getting crazy deals these days but still they will go over $600 after all. MB, yes for 350 it is possible with little options. Genesis is definately doable for V6. A6? oh no.... |

I'd consider an Acura TSX V6. It's FWD and not as ugly as the new TL. Probably can get one for under 600 a month with only a small amount of cash down. All the other cars you listed are going to be over 600/month.

There is the new Buick LaCrosse with the 3.0 DI available with the Haldex AWD system from the Saab 9-3 or the 280 HP 3.6 DI V6( FWD only). Even Dan Neil liked it and he has always raped GM's products( even the Camaro!) and said the LaCrosse was better then the ES. If they are resistant to going with Buick because of the "image", then I would go for the CTS-4. What is wrong with going with a 328xi? The 3 series is available in AWD......

I would go with an audi if they want a AWD car and besides, it has the classiest look out of all those stock wise. If not, the 5 series is definately a nice car to have but it's more common than the 3 series where I live lol ( Los Angeles/ OC ). Genesis is a pretty nice car for older people, my mother drives the v6 sedan and I gotta say, it's a comfy DD.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll check out the CTS and Genesis this weekend. I think the Hyundai is rear wheel, but will ask if there's any AWD options. The best part about searching is getting a chance to test drive some other cars, which I haven't done in a while Note - one of my neighbors was leasing an A6 for about 650 a month He's since traded to an S5, so his costs went up, but I'm just saying...

Get them to look at the new A4 2.0T. It's actually pretty big. Nice looking too.
