Some questions on front spoliers
Whilst cleaning the car over the weekend I have noticed some of the clear coat has lifted and I now have a nice dull patch on the bottom lip of the front bumper.
No doubt a stone chip or something has started this and I will be very surprised if this is going to be covered by warranty so it looks like I have 3 options: 1. Take it into a BMW bodyshop for them to sort (thinking big money) 2. Get Chips Away out 3. Upgrade to one of these splitter things everybody keeps talking about. So on the 3rd option, carbon fibre would just look wrong on a Montego Blue E91 SE so it would need painting but how do these things fit? Do they fit over the top of the existing bit or are they a full on replacement. As I have now decided to keep the car beyond it's 2 year lease I don't mind investing in this if it looks OK but I do not want to look to boy racerish at the same time. Thoughts and comments welcome. |

Most of the splitters will attach over the top of the bumper and extend down slightly ( if any). So this might cover the dull area depending on were it is on the bumper. BMW i believe have a nice one for the SE cars and doesn't look wrong if the rest of the car isn't modded in any way. I'm sure if you search OEM splitter on this site you might find a picture of one.

My car has just gone into a BMW dealer for a front bumper that had some clear coat issues, it had lost its clear coat in an area no more than an inch square in size, all being done under warranty. It did take 3 weeks to get approved but at least all the stone chips are being done as well, they have removed the whole bumper to respray, very handy ;-)

Having read a few posts on this today I am going to give the dealer a prod first. After all, it's a bit of car that sits very low down right at the front of a pretty quick car. It's going to get hit be debris etc all the time. Fit for purpose comes to mind. The annoying thing is that I am off to France for a couple of weeks next week so I am running out of time to get things done. |
