Tracking the status - Question
Hey all,
I placed an order for a LeMans Blue 335xi 4 door around July 14th. I received my VIN# about two/three weeks ago (Let's say July 25th). Since I got the VIN#, I have tracked it pretty much everyday. Since then, it has been in the paint shop and the message says the completion date will be August 25th. Do you guys know if that means that the car will be shipped by August 25th or that it will be painted by August 25th? If it will be painted by the 25th, is there any reason why it is taking so long for this to be completed? Do they possibly close the plant down? If that is the case I will have some words for my stealership. Someone help clarify for me please!?!?! |

IFIRC, that date is the date it is expected to leave the factory. You still have the transfer to port, the loading onto the ship, etc.
I remember hearing somewhere that they were shutting down the line at some point this summer, but thought it was supposed to be in July, and can't find where I read that now . . .

Production Schedules
Unfortuantely your order is right on the cusp of the new model year. Most of the plants in Europe shut down in August, so your date of 8/25 could be either the last week of production of MY '09 or the first of MY '10. The date you are seeing is the date the car is available for transport. I would check with my CA to see what MY the car is. Last year mine was built in the first week of MY '09 production which was Sept 9, 2008.

Can't throw in a navigation system at this point (and almost certainly not at no cost unless you way overpaid for your car to begin with), as it would change the production entirely. Unfortunately, this is how it goes when you order a car built to your specs -- the wait seems very long. But once you get it, it will all be forgotten. I encourage you to distract yourself in the meantime with other things and not spend too much time here at e90post, or you'll drive yourself crazy.
Also, FYI the better forum to post this question is here, where you'll find lots of others in your shoes: http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30 |

Ok just called the 800 to track it and I pressed 0 to speak to someone. Gentlemen said that the car is ETA production on 08/25 but it also said that it will be in the paint shop until 08/31 but did not know if this was a glitch or what. He said as far as he knows the production began on the 28th (which is awkward because I got my VIN# at least a week before that) and that production should not be halted due to the plant closing.
I will be calling my CA sometime after noon today. |
