Tyre pressures - 335d
Another daft question but my 335d has just been fully serviced. Aware that the RFTs need careful attention, I bought a decent pressure gauge and have checked them all several times - the recommended tyre pressures are on a sticker printed by the drivers door - they suggest 2.6 bar for the rears (approx 37PSi) and 2.1 bar for the fronts (approx 30PSi) - the tyres came at exactly 2.6 bar all round (one was 2.5 bar so corrected it) - surely with a car with 50/50 weight distribution, it's best to set the same pressure in all tyres? And 2.1 bar/30PSi is VERY low. I've left them the same for now.
Any suggestions? Being an E91 SE my tyres are 225/45 17" all round. |

ive got a 320 with 19" and was told that the tyre pressure has to be 2.4psi all around not 2.4 rear and 2.2 front as stated on the sticker

v24 - are they runflats? Seems RFTs need slightly higher pressures than "normal" tyres.
I reckon you might mean "bar" not PSi - otherwise you have some very flat tyres! Always seems odd - I run my MTB tyres at 50-60PSi and my road bike tyres at 110PSi - seems strange that cars tyres are such low pressure (but high volume)! |

Get with the program dxb - E91s have 225s all round. I would have thought you of all people would know that?!
Xenon kindly had it verified. Actually it's only the E92 that comes with 255s at the rear - even the saloon is 225 all round. And the E93 335d and 335i appears not to exist - is that a recent thing?! Last edited by Em135eye; 08-23-2009 at 01:30 PM.. |

they dont do a e93 335d, just 330d in denz..
Well ill have to stop and look at the E91 SE 335d in my town next time its parked up. Fuckin ludicrous if you aske me. How you gonna lay those ponies down when you have astra width wheels on the rear... Gay as fook if you ask me. So E92 SE 335d drivers have an advantage to E90 and E91 335d drivers... Good for us eh.

Ahh yes but we have the final and critical advantage over E92's drivers - we aren't all gay...
Still, it appears that with no 35d engine available, the E93 is even gayer... TBH many cars these days are completely "overtyred" and "overwheeled." Look at what something like an FQ360 has tyre wise - they seem to do pretty well... |

I know, i think its silly that two cars int he same class (3series) and same engine and 'box have different width wheels, seems a joke.. Im sure new SE's must have the 255's.
It was prob 225 up untill the E92 came out sept 2006? who knows? Either way i think it should have 255's on, i presume the 18" + rims have 255's?! No need to take offense.

I was being daft (as usual!) - no offense whatsover. Still 225s on E91 and E90 SEs - even brand new.
Lighten up! This is only the internet... Mine was built in October 2006 BTW - it says so in rather large writing under the bonnet. |

Errmm - November 2006 I think (V5 is tucked away in a cupboard). Pretty soon after the build! What age is yours? You've had the E92 for a little while haven't you?
What did you have before? I've had some quickish motors but the 335d is a lot quicker than any of them! Mk4 Golf R32 was the previous quickest but also had a few GTis. |

I've got the same tyres on my 320d SE - 2.1 bar front, 2.6 rear as per the sticker.

Swansea - 2.1 bar just seems very low. I'm taking it in tomorrow (small rattle at the back - think it's the seatbelt mount plus a stuck middle rear seatbelt) so will ask.
Dxb - that Fiesta must be lethal?!! But fun! Grew up amoung quick car so really got the bug young - not driven much that's REALLY quick but a decent number of pokeyish motors - and tested a 750i for the Independent. I enjoy all sorts of cars - they don't have to be ballistic - but it helps! Quickest was that FQ360 (9) - crazy quick and would blast the inlaws old F355 (which I was insured on) into the weeds! Agree though - the 335d is such a great allrounder. You can pootle around in comfortable luxury, then hammer it and laugh at the almost spooky acceleration (just seems to do it with so little effort!) and still manage to have lots of fun on the twisties - an area where most powerful modern Audis fall down. Driven some fast boats too - inlaws had a Botnia Targa 35 - daft looking thing (like a fishing boat) but packed 2 x 330bhp diesels - well over 40 knots in something that looks like it should be catching pollock! Plus several Boston Whalers - one a 22ft Outrage with two 115s and all sorts of other stuff. I likes big engines I do! |

I've raced FQ330 new one rolling and pulled away a treat he gave thumbs up after. Stock I pulled away from 300 easy too. 335d is cracking in standard trim. But I would reccommend a re-map.

When I changed my 330i to non RFTs, using the RFT pressure (2.2/2.4) they felt like jelly. 2.6/2.8 was much more like it for non RFTs. The RFTs were rock solid at 2.2/2.4 My 335i tourer states 2.5/2.8 (medium loading) but that is ridiculous, the car crashes and bounces all over the road. I just use the 2.2/2.4 from my old 330i and its just fine. RE the 'low' pressure compared to MTB for example, it's all about size of contact patch. Your MTB probably has about 2square inches of rubber on the road on each wheel, so 60psi (pounds per square inch) would support 240lbs / 109kg over those 4 square inches.... Get my drift? A car has say a 8"x3" contact patch (24 sq inches) per wheel, so 4 x 24 x 35spi = 3360 pounds = 1527kg. |
