I get this noise also , thought it was a fault with the alarm system . Since it hasnt caused me any trouble ive been happy enough to let it continue . Interested to know whats happening though

It's the sat nav disc running up to speed to be ready by the time you start the engine.

Could be your fuel pump.
It's quite common for cars to prime the fuel system when unlocking / opening door so you don't have to wait when you turn the ignition key. |

to add in, mine does this too, and i dont have Nav. sounds like passenger side low down to me, so i would agree with the inline fuel pump firing up, its under the passenger seat ish.. (i presume if its similar in design to the E46)
