Help me choose my next car.
Well, now that my beloved 335i is gone (and being enjoyed by Peter at VMR) it's time to start looking at my next car.
I'm interested in "fun" cars. Could be as cheap as the 2010 VW GTI or Mazdaspeed 3 or a bit more expensive. I'm also considering CPO cars of no more than 2 years old. But a small part of me is considering older "classic" cars too. I have a baby on the way, so I'm not sure i want to spend a bunch on the new car, so that's why I'm considering "downgrading" a bit to cars like the GTI or MS3. But I'm worried I will miss the BMW level of well everything. Used CPO C63 AMG is a consideration, but they seem to be hard to find. 2010 S4 is now out as it's lease rates are too high for it's price. Suggestions? Let me have em. Thanks |

Since you have a baby on the way, the 4-door GTI and the MS3 seems like a fun and practical choice.
I test drove the MS3 and was slightly down on the quality of the interior plastics and such, but overall thought it was great. My brother has a GTI and has been very happy with it, except for a few minor glitches. The interior is likely significantly better on the GTI, though I have not seen the interior of the new 2010 MS3. You could also consider a CPO Audi A3, particularly if you get the 3.2 S-line it should be a fun car and have the typical high quality Audi interior. When new they are pretty ridiculous, but depreciate rather quickly. I don't think the VW R32 came in a 4-door version, otherwise I would suggest a used one of those as well.

A bit toward your performance side.
I know where an 07' E63 is for 48K. 19K miles. Black/Black. C55's can be had for GREAT prices right now. I mean stupid cheap. AMG has always lost bookoos(sp) regarding depreciation but the prices are beyond the norm. Used/CPO is where I might lean if I were you no matter the brand. If you lease the residuals on particular used brands/models are pretty strong too. This is the first time I can remember, and I have a few moons under my belt, that I have seen the deals I do now. The new cars you listed would all work for me too. Fancy the GTI more though.

No doubt there could be problems. CPO is there for a reason too.
What I intended to get across is the opportunity, if desired, to get a higher powered car vs a lesser for close to the same money.

I would have purchased a 4 door R32 in a heartbeat if they sold them in the US!
The 4 door GTi would be a fun alternative. If you're not worried about getting your munchkin in the car the new Camaro is awesome! If I didn't have a baby and a nice 335 already I would be seriously considering one. |
