'rotex gold' dust free brake pads - see pics
after 200 miles of driving and no wiping of the rims since install... on my e92 sport...
front: rear: i wiped the rim with my finger to show the light dust... on the front rim. i put these on all my bmws - a real cleaning time saver with no issues of noise, squeal, or rotor wear and equal braking performance to oem.

less than $140 shipped for front & rear pads - i installed them myself (quite easy to do with simple hand tools).

~ same feel as factory pads - but better bite once heated with some aggressive braking.

How's the rotor's and such? Do BMW's ever really need much rotor repair or anything like that? My old 99 Maxima just needed pads only, never anything else with 125k. It was great. The BMW like that?

I checked real oem and its calling different part numbers for the M Vs the 330, I'll take off the pads for my 3 series this weekend, I still have the stock pads from my M I took out the first week to switch to axxis pads, If they are the same size then the axxis ceramic pads would be even cheaper!

~ a diy for all who go this route:
ROTEX BRAKE PAD INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Tools Required: flathead screw driver needle nose pliers 3/8 ratchet w/ extension 7 mm allen wrench 7 mm allen socket 17 mm socket w/ extension (for easy of removing lug bolts) floor jack torque wrench Steps to follow: 1.) Use a floor jack and tools to loose lug nuts. (suggestion: use electrical tape around exterior lug wrench bore for added protection from scratches to your rims) 2.) Use a floor jack to lift vehicle so the tire is 2" off the ground. 3.) Remove loosened lug nuts with 17 mm socket and extension. (use electrical tape on this socket as well) 3.) Use flat screw driver to push piston clip to compressed piston. Place screw driver in the back side of caliper between rotor and inboard pad. Twist screw driver against pad and rotor to move piston back. 4.) Remove front caliper clip with screw driver or pliers. 5.) Remove sensors gently by pulling on sensor to unplug. 6.) Remove black plastic caps on backside of caliper. 7.) Use 7 mm allen socket and/or 7 mm allen wrench to remove both long allen bolts. 8.) Remove caliper from rotor (do not allow caliper to hang by brake lines). Set caliper on top of rotor, securely. 9.) Remove factory brake pads. Install inbound "Rotex" pad into caliper piston. Install outboard pad onto rotor bracket housing. 10.) Side caliper over rotor. Secure caliper by inserting caliper allen bolts into the rear of caliper. Make sure bolts are in place correctly. Then tighten 7 mm allen bolts firmly. (*Note: Caliper will seem semi-loose, but this is normal). 11.) Reinstall sensor wire. 12.) Reinstall plastic caps on backside of caliper. 13.) Reinstall front caliper clip. 14.) Reinstall wheel and tire. Hand tighten lug nuts with 17mm socket. The tighten securely with lug wrench. Lower vehicle with floor jack and retighten lug nuts when vehicle is on the pavement. Torque lugs to oem specs. 15.) Start car and apply brake pedal repeatedly until pressure has built up. Drive as normal. Note: I always add anti-squeal goop to the backing plates and brake grease to the contact points. It can't hurt.

would this void the maintenance warranty of the rotors though?
pads are cheap but rotors car add up... cause I'd really love something like this... any performance loss? |

I don't think there's a rotor issue with the Rotex or the Akebono Euro Ceramics I have. For steet use these pads are fine. I've have Akebono's ceramics on the 335.I love 'em. Same low dust as the pics above after a couple hundred miles. It's great not having that excess dust on the wheels. Last edited by Joeb427; 09-15-2009 at 03:19 PM.. |

I changed my pads to Axxis/Centric low dust and it was the single best mod on the car. Not having to clean my wheels every 2 days was a blessing.
I know people complained about the lack of inital bite of the low dust pads, but once bedded and broken in after a few hundred miles, the performance is as good, if not better than OEM. You just have to give them a chance to break in.

I have been using EBC Redstuffs for years and have had no brake dust issue and good performance. I track the car and have had no fade. They do require higher pedal pressure than the stock pads though.
I guess since I keep buying the EBCs I'm recommending them. I tried some Hawk Performance Ceramics on my e36 and still have them on the car. That said I am more satisfied with the EBC and would not recommend the Hawks. They are low dust too but not as low as the EBCs and they don't perform as well IMO.

i had rotex on my e36 a while back. i also thought i notice that there was less dust. after looking carefully, I realized that it was the color of the dust which was lighter, made it look like there was less dust. It made as much dust as the OE brake pad IMO, just lighter in color and hard to notice.
