My crazy idea...
I have NO idea where to post this, so here goes.
So, I've got a little bit of a crazy idea. I used to have an E90 330i. I sold that and have another car. My dream is to build my own car (well.. kit car to be exact). Anyway, I want to put the N54 / 6A trans into one of Factory Five's 33 Hot Rods. I miss the drive train in my E90. Now, I'm not so worried about the fabrication part. I'm most worried about the electronics. If I EVER get a chance to do this, I'll buy a donor car. But I wonder about other issues that could completely derail the project. Any reason this CAN'T work? Things I'm curious about: 1.) ABS / DSC systems (what happens when these aren't hooked up at all) 2.) HVAC integration and control 3.) Lighting (interior and exterior) 4.) Gauges (chance to use non BMW gauges?) Just the tip of the iceberg here. Curious to any input anyone might have. |

I'd seriously look at doing an aftermarket ECU, independent accessory wiring and making any necessary changes to engine over using the factory DME.
However, I really think tt's going to be way more aggravation that it would be worth. When you factor in things like the electronics and limited aftermarket support I think you'd be way better off going with an S54 if you have to have a BMW inline 6 in the car. |
