Shipping wheels with tires to Canada from US
Has anyone done this? Can anyone recommend good (ie. inexpensive but reliable) carriers for this? I spoke to my dealership and they recommended putting a few layers of cardboard over the rims then wrapping them in that saran-wrap packaging. The tires offer pretty good protection for most knocks. I've received quotes from $200-$2000 to ship four wheels/tires from California. Can anyone help??? ![]()

UPS quoted $165.92 USD plus brokerage fee ($42.25) and duty of $5.00 to ship four wheels to Calgary from California. That is for the person who is shipping to pay the UPS driver. Payment at delivery point is more expensive.

yea i had them UPS'd to me from FL...i think the total cost for the freight was around $200..kinda cheap...but then there was duty..mine was around $900...cause they werent made in NA...i'd suggest finding a point near the border on the US side and picking them up yourself. places could be UPS stores, mailbox inc', and other stuff like that....put on a set of cheapies and ditch 'em on the other side...be sure to run around in some mud puddles to make 'em look used otherwise ur still gonna get charged...

You better off looking at your local area and see if any deals is available since you are paying tons in freight from CA to Calgary, not worth it.

Do not use UPS! (I cannot stress this enough). FedEx is the way to go, b/c they charge less than 1/2 the brokerage fee of UPS. I bought rims/tires from TireRack and paid $40 in brokerage. I believe I paid $140 for shipping.

I would avoid UPS shipping if at all possible.
When I bought from the Tire Rack 8 years ago for Volvo winters, the shipping, duty, exchange and brokerage was $318CAN. The brokerage fee they charge is unfair. Last time I checked, FedEx did not ship ground from U.S. to Canada, only air which is not good value, but it may be worth a look to see if this has changed. |

I got quoted pretty fair for brokerage fees, I think?
The tires/wheels will be used so there should be little/no duty on them. Believe it or not, $200-$220 is pretty good when we can get a full set of wheels/tires for $800-$1200 USD. With the exchange these days it works out pretty good for us Canucks. In my area, there aren't a lot of E90s that swap out their OEM wheels for aftermarket rims. Finding used OEM wheels is difficult at best. I can get them out of Vancouver or Toronto but I would still have to ship them here and the prices seem quite high. There seem to be a LOT of California E90 owners selling OEM rims.

I'm looking to sell my Hyperdark CSL 19's right now in Calgary. You don't even have to worry about the shipping. Let me know if you want more info. I don't frequent these forums much so just email me at vdhesi@hotmail.com .
They have approx. 4500 km's on them perfect condition
