Anyone negotiated on an X5 in Toronto?
Posted this on the X5 forum, but seems to be much more Canadian activity here. Apologies that's it's not E9x related.
I have a 2006 330i (E90) with a lease that is up at the end of Feb. I've pretty much decided I'm going with a 2010 X5 diesel. Looking at Monaco / Tobacco / Bamboo, all options except HUD and Sports package. Haven't started to negotiate yet, but would be good to get feedback on the kind of discount that would be realistic. The guy I met with at BMW Toronto (Vince) indicated 2% without any pushing, so I imagine it's possible to do better.

Probably a good approach. It is tempting to go with the 535xiT instead, since they have a $3,000 incentive from BMW, on top of the discount. I much prefer the drive of the 535, but I probably need the extra ground clearance of the X5. Tough decision.

You would still be able to get Eco credit with X5 diesel right? Put your offer down without listening to what they say, it will be most likely %4, dont settle for less!

I didn't really like him. I found it really hard to get any kind of deal through him - as if BMW is rolling in so much money and so don't bother asking for a bigger discount than 3%. A 2% discount from them is way off imo - you can get more at vritually any other stealership. Seems like everyone on this forum is getting at least 6% for their E9xs without much effort - some guys are reporting getting like 8-9%!! I dunno about X5s but Vince doesn't seem to want to make a decent deal unless you walk out. He will then call you like 5 or 6 times trying to get your business. For SAs like him, I just like to find out what the best price I can get from him and then move on to another dealer - say Parkview or Budds and have them beat it. Do a search for good dealerships or maybe try a different SA if possible. I didn't like his BS. |

No, unfortunately I think the eco credit only applies to hybrids and electric vehicles, not to diesels. Crazy given that the X5 diesel probably gets better real-world mileage than the Lexus RX hybrid. In the US I think they get $4,500.

Hmm, good to know. I actually found him quite good to deal with, but we're in the early stages. I got my last two BMWs in Calgary at BMW Gallery, but I'm glad to be in Toronto for this one, since it seems like the greater level of competition and larger inventories mean much better deals.
One thing I'll add: I've also been considering a Touareg diesel, but the sales experience at VW downtown toronto was so bad it put me off the brand completely. Whichever BMW dealership you go to, they all seem to be light years ahead of those guys. Just the cheesiest spiel imaginable ("you better order now if you want a car for the end of February" -- even though he later admitted it would be easy to order now and have a Touareg TDI for early January at the latest, and even that was probably a lie). Sales guy knew virtually nothing about the car, claiming it was 100% zero emissions (has he heard of CO2?), and telling me the nav system was not available in the Comfortline model. Quote:
