Where to look while driving?

Hi all,

I'd like some tips for where to look when you're driving... of course, you're supposed to look straight ahead, in your mirrors, etc.. but is there any useful tip on HOW to look, i.e. periodically look here... or periodically look there?

The reason I am asking is because it sometimes happens to me that I miss signs... I am quite careful of STOP signs, right of way, etc., because I know when and where to look for them. But recently, I have been having trouble with speed signs... like I'm leaving a city, I see the sign, so I look ahead (in order to judge if I can speed up) and then gun it.... but it sometimes happens that there is a sign right there imposing a speed limit. Any tips? I don't want to get in trouble.

Thanks.

Lol, well its not like I speed...

I tend to have the opposite problem - I slow down too much... like if I miss the end of town sign, I keep on going 50, instead of speeding up to 90... If i see too many buildings, I slow down, even if it is out of town an the speed limit is 90.

I usually look at all the other cars around me.....drive defensively.

Like if I'm slowing down for a yield sign to merge, I look in my rear view to make sure the guy behind me doesn't rear end me...etc.

dude, you should know your different speed limits in each zone. Isnt that in your learners test? Oh and before you get your drivers dont they teach u the 5 point check and blind spots etc, like tiag said, mirror before stopping etc.

Also going to slow such as 50 in a 90 zone is just as dangerous as speeding in a 90 zone. Other cars, especially younger people wont judge your speed and might start braking a bit to late.

Take care of that car and hey, we all have to start some where.

wait...it sounds like he's either from NY or NJ.....cuz most drivers here are like that!

in all seriousness, take another driver's ed course and COMPLETE IT before driving again. Otherwise expect the worse, hopefully to yourself and not involve other innocent people.

The OP is talking kph, not mph. City limit signs imply a 50 kph speed limit, and when you leave the city limits, the speed limit goes to 90 kph.
