Question My Warranty has been canned....Should I Tune??

My warranty has been canned.... Im not going to go into that. The question I now have is, since I no longer have to worry about being scared to go to teh dealer (removing mods/tunes etc), should I just tune my ride? Its a purchase not a lease.

Same just happen to me, and im in the same boat as you.
The way I look at it is, Can you offered to mod and fix when need BMW's not cheap to fix when things go wrong. If you have like 2 to 3 grand on the side to fix in case of an emergency than do it if not be careful what mods you do.
I have so far procede, and IC. I have dps but thats what got my warranty voided and not sure I am putting back.

Yup, get a tune and run conservative levels of boost.

Get some Meth KIT aswell! Hook it up with members former boosted DIY meth kit.

Not only will the meth give great benefits when running a tune, lower IAT, less IAT boost decay, and more power, etc.
It has amazing benefits to the actual engine, letting it run cooler, healthier, less strain and much cleaner!

Rene,

Shoot me a PM, I'm curious to know how everything ended up at the dealer. Also, let me know if you want to come by and check out the GIAC tune in my car if you're considering doing a tune and some other mods now.

Since you lost your warranty, at least let the forum know what happened, so maybe it won't happen to them...I mean you didn't even have a tune or dps, what the hell could have voided your warranty, obviously not your exterior mods!!

+2

Other folks on the forums need to know what happened to you so they could avoid it... and maybe even disclose the dealership that did the deed.

I think you can loose your warranty if you work on your own car and something goes wrong.

It depends, most times it would only involve a certain portion of the vehicle or the particular that was replaced unless it was proven that that specific aftermarket part played a part in other damage on a claim.

Dealers cannot void a warranty, only BMWNA. However, a dealer can refuse to work on a car.

I'd like to hear the OP's side of the story.

OK peeps, you asked for it....long story. Prepare a nice cold one, and maybe a stog/joint/vice of choice.

Im not going to disclose any names nor blame anyone publicly etc.

I WAS in fact, tuned...with a lowly JB2 (other mods = DCI, custom catback exhaust) . I had it removed at my house, for service I needed done (brake fluid). As soon as it was removed, car immediately had teh hpfp symptoms, 6 second cranks and it caused this:

So then, I thought, ok fuel pump went out. Strange, I had never had fp problems nor long cranks etc.

Ok fine, time to scan for codes and its off to teh dealer.

Took the car to AE Performance, where Nick gave me great service (even stayed late too!). Scanned the car for a low price....he cleared the codes. Then the bt showed another code, without starting the car. Something related to boost. So both of us were like wtf? So he rescans, code is gone...wtf pt2. But whatever. So, I take it to NEW CENTURY BMW, where I usually go.

After a day or so, I get a call from my SA saying teh ecu box has been tampered with!!! Im like wtf! How the hell???? I denied. Then the next day (or 2 later), the SA calls me and tells me they may have to replace my dme. They apparently couldnt figure out what was wrong with the car. I thought the ecu tamper thing was a scare tactic. He made it seem like my dme would be replaced since they couldnt find the problem, and a code kept showing up.

They replaced my hpfp, reprogrammed teh car (fuck does that mean I have lag now??) and the code still existed.

The next day, the service manager calls me, and they said they have flagged my car to BMW NA. Not only that, but they have submitted photos of my ecu etc etc. They apparently had to look at a stock ecu to compare what was going on. So in essence, BMW NA was involved and they had all sorts of data on my car.

So service manager said finally that they had discovered teh problem, and to fix it, they wanted $500. They said they would not disclose the nature of the problem if i declined.

At this point, I realized that the removal of the jb2 probably went wrong, and it was a wiring problem, I declined. (Mind you, they were also giving me shit about my car being too low, they were gonna charge me money in the future if i wanted service there) Picked up my car, and was also banned from NC BMWfor future service (by the service manager). They showed a few pictures of my ecu and wiring harness and what not. That pretty much gave away the fact that it was a wiring problem.

I took my car away, and called Terry from BMS. Set up an appt, and limped my car all the way to his place....which was quite the drive... Diamond Bar---> Simi Valley = fuhhhhh. (BTW, NC BMW didnt even do my fucking brake service when I told them too...CANT THEY SEE THE GODDAMN SERVICE OVERDUE LIGHT????)

Anyway, Terry confirmed my suspicions: ONE GODDAMN WIRE WAS IN WRONG. ONE!!!!!!!! I was so mad to find that out. It was such a cruel ironic twist. But well...nothing i can do now.

So I drove my car home, back to stock tune. Shit, at least it was out of limp mode...what a terrible feeling to drive in limp mode...

Im already passed the rage/disbelief/sadness/rage part of this whole ordeal. Car is flagged and thats that. One somewhat comforting thing teh Service Manager at NC told me, was that there was a good possibility BMW NA would still cover my hpfps in the future, due to it being a widespread problem...but who knows.

So...here I am. 25XXX miles and no warranty on a purchase. I do not plan on selling the car, so I am worried about the long run here as well.

What im really nervous about is the hpfp (having to pay a shop every time etc).

So after all of this, you guys still think I should tune??

A few things to note:
1. I did not put on the jb2 nor remove it.
2. I will not disclose who was involved in the installation and removal, (I dont want to start an online war....Im over this whole shit)

wow sucks to hear that, that happened...why not go for the JB+? Easy to install/remove and gives a good amount of power plus you wont need to go in to your ecu anymore.

The pump is $385 (part 13517592881) at Tischer. If you are keeping the car for a while, buy the Bentley Service Manual for $80 and start to take on maintenance yourself. There are detailed step to HPFP replacement in there:

http://www.amazon.com/BMW-E90-E91-Se...3759847&sr=8-1

If you are keeping the car jump in there tand ry to do some work yourself. Get a BT cable so you can clear codes and reset conditioned based service intervals.

Damn thanks for taking the time and typing that out. I'll second guess those dps and o2 sims. If I were u I'd go a mild tune. Maybe try to go dinan and see if u can get the drivetrain warranty from them.
