Some Questions about a 330d quote I got.
I've been offered what I think is a good price on a New Manual 330d Msport:
£32,133.60 for a Black Msport, with Media Package - BMW Professional, DAB digital radio and Beige Dakota Leather. I've got some questions though, maybe some of you can help? 1. The media package - I presume that this will come with a USB interface as standard or else, how would you get your music on the HDD? 2. If I went for an IPOD connection too, does this allow full control of the IPOD, or is it Playlists only? 3. How good is the standard sound system? 4. Should I go for the 335D instead? But at £35,602.90 Problem is, I have to decide by the end of the month or else the price goes up by £2k (some kind of BMW special offer). I've not yet driven a 335d either. I can't help thinking that I'd be better off waiting and getting a used 335d for about £30k in a few months time, albeit having to compromise on the spec a bit. What do you guys think of the price? Is this too good to pass up? Cheers guys! |

Assume it's brand new then?
You can get a low mile very high spec 335d for mid to high £20K. Most seem to hate the hifi standard system - I think it's okay. |

Which model? Saloon, coupe, tourer???
What's the list price all in? I get £36,965 for a saloon, so you're getting a 13% discount by my reckoning?? No too bad. I'm sure the 2k extra is sales BS. They just want your sale on their September target (6 months into the year remember) Don't fall for that, or tell them if they want the sale this month, they'll have to do better than 13%. They're meant to be desparate. BTW Media pack pro does NOT include the 6FL armrest USB socket option for playing from memeory sticks and ipods etc. It does give you a USB socket in the glovebox to upload to the HDD only. Standard hifi is a bit poor and lacks the subwoofers under the seats and extra amps. The mid range hifi, 'business' is great for the money IMO. |

I have rather bassy speakers under the seats of mine - are they standard or not? Still not convinced I have a standard system if it's meant to be cack - it does seem to sound okay to me!
Agree Doughboy - they need to shift cars. BMW are paying for numbers almost over margin. Kick them in the nuts. |

The business hifi has the same door speakers, i thought no subwoofers but i may be wrong, but it has a couple of amps to drive it all with. Maybe the standard subs are too feeble to notice?? |

Not a LCI car thou, these have all gone over 30K again. There were a couple of 4 doors under at the start of the month but with the Bluewater Oyster leather combo.

All standard high set-ups have subs under the seats.

1. The media package doesn't come with usb interface. Music is copied to the hdd directly from cds, thus usb not necessary.
2. BMW ipod lead used with usb interface allows full control of ipod incl playlists. 3. LCI sound system has been improved. Still doesnt have front tweeters. You could go standard and add these later. 4. Both 330d and 335d are both great cars. Its personal preference what you go for, obviously the 335d is more powerful and tuneable, also the power is instant!!! 330d is by no means a slouch. I'd think carefully about going for a manual car because it might not be as desireable to prospective buyers when you come to sell. As Im sure, you already know the 335d looks a lot more expensive because you're comparing it against a manual 330d. Add the auto box and things look a little closer. Speak to Laurence Bennett at Sytner Harold Wood to see what they could offer you. They're a good bunch of people and very open to doing deals! Last edited by flyfs6; 09-28-2009 at 10:17 AM.. |

The Quote I got was for a Saloon.
The quote was actually through a friend who was speaking to somone he knows in corporate sales. Aparrently, (and prob BS I agree), is that £2k of the discount is a Sept only deal from BMW, the rest of the discount is from the dealer. Sounds like I need the proffesional system, its only £380 so seems quite good value. Useful to know about the USB not being able to play music direct. Ideally though I want a used car, but defo want a faclift E90, so used prices for those seem to be about £31k for 330Ds. Think I need to wait a few more months. |

I might be wrong on the USB, but I thought the HDD system comes with the USB glovebox socket for backing up and loading to HDD. (its very slow and only 12GB on the HDD for your use) Get the 6FL USB option for defo, you'll regret it otherwise. |

Hi,
I got the BMW 2k discount stuff as well, I reckon that this can't last with the movement of sterling against the euro. I reckon a new car is better value than a used one. get the 6fl option(usb in glovebox)and maybe go for logic7 sound if you like your tunes! |

If you want manual mate which I noticed is on the car you mentioned then 335d may not be for you as it only comes Auto ! If you dont mind that then a mapped 335d is just a crazy car tbh, still cant get over the horsepower and torque that diesel engine can kick out, you must try one.
I have the logic 7 stereo which is great IMO no need to upgrade anything.

Thanks for all the replies.
So, this 6LF jobby, will this allow me to play from memory key AND control an IPOD? To be clear, if I don't spec 6LF I will only be able to put music onto the HDD via a music CD where as with 6LF I can transfer mp3s direct to the cars HDD? There seems to be some conflicting views on this. Wasn't massivly impressed with the manual in the 330 but wouldn't spec it simply to get more performance, economy and to make a saving. So, the auto in the 335 wouldn't be an issue if it was the car I prefered. Are there any other must have options? Is DAB a mistake? What is the reception like? |

The ZF auto Box in the 335d is perfectly matched. It really is that good. Suits the car to the ground and the paddles are fun. (I use the paddles for the majority of my driving).

Sounds good - looking forward to sampling. I tried the double clutch auto in a 335i, how does this compare to the box in the 335d in terms of change times etc?
