splitters install (what's the best way)
hey guys,
i have just purchased some m-tech carbon fiber splitters from JBSPEED that will go on my e92. i was just wondering if you guys could give me some options in regards to installing them? i'm scared that i may get sick of them and will want to take them off and thus if glued straight to the bumper this will mean i will have to re spray the whole front of my car and i dont really want to do that! is there a way to install? or a particular glue that i can uses that would make this possible to remove with little damage? any help would be much appreciated.. thanks! |

And dab a 50/50 mix of water and ammonia based window cleaner on the side of the tape that will stick to the car. This allow you some time to adjust and reposition the splitter once on the bumper. When the ammonia evaporates, the tape will stick real well.

Yes, 3M black/gray foam double sided tape with red peels.
The black foam was designed for auto body purposes but I have also tried the gray foam which was industrial strength for outdoor use, holds up to ~5 lbs if I remember correctly. Both yielded the same result. |

Bloody brilliant! Does this really work? I wish I knew this trick when I was installing my M-Tech spoiler a couple weeks ago. That would have made the install a heck of a lot easier!

Yes it works very well, just smear it with a dab of Windex and hold it in place with duct tape, wait 30~40 minutes for the Windex to evaporate and yer done.

And the Windex won't degrade the quality of the adhesives on the tape? Want to make sure that the pieces I tape on don't go flying off of my car while on the highway, or while going 120 at the track.
This is great info, as I'm planning on getting painted front splitters as well, and possibly an ACS style roof spoiler. Thanks everyone!

It act as a fast-evaporating lubricant between the tape and the surface. Rubbing alcohol would be ideal too except it evaporates too fast before you can slap the trim on. A lot of members on the forum utilize this method as well and so far no complaints of tape degradation. |
