Buttonwillow spin
Let's critique what this guy did wrong. He inexplicably coasts in second or third gear into turn 3, at the start of the video. Takes a weird line but maybe that's what works best in his rear engine car. Sounds like he lifted as he crested the hill. Spin.
Maybe not? yeah, he's coasting too much. Should be on the gas earlier there, and he is a bit off line and the curbing may have upset the car. He probably should have used more brake before the hill as well, so he wouldn't have to lift. also, if you watch the rest of the vid, he is very late getting back on the throttle in almost every corner. |

Cresting will make the rear light, one usually need to watch for throttle, lifting, braking, steering input after cresting. So the line is very important in that instance. The Porsche is even more tricky with that weight in the rear.
Should have probably slowed down before cresting and keep maintenance throttle to crest to keep the rear planted, or finished steering input and unwinding at or before cresting. Using too much throttle, steering, braking or lifting after cresting is not good. I personally think he steered right at cresting. He should have taken the curve from the left side, steer right before cresting and start to unwind.

The problem starts from the first corner(0:14), magnifies in the 2nd(0:19), and crescendos in the 3rd (0:23). This also happens to be at a crest. My guess he turns the wheel to the right as he lifts, right before he spins. I think, he thinks he's running out of track. Which he may be, as his line is not good. Early apex is right, but it's caused by entering the corner incorrectly, set up by many little "errors". My two cents.

I think his mistake number 1 is driving a car with the engine on the wrong side. ![]() Again, ideally I'd like to set up the camera mount so I can see hand input and helmet movement at the minimum, and if I can aim the mirrors to see the eyes that'd be ideal. Being able to see just the track doesn't do much for analysis if you ask me. But if I were to take a guess, the key mistake here is very simple. The driver wasn't looking FAR ENOUGH ahead. After mistake number 1 (driving the FWD backwards), he compounds the mistake moving his visual reference down to the left hand turn apex going up the hill. He hit what would have been the geometric apex, if the left hand turn leads to an immediate STRAIGHT. Unfortunately the left hand turn was followed by an immediate right hand turn up and over the hill. |

The real problem is that someone who should be driving a VW Golf on the track is driving a 911.

Trajectory was wrong in 3c - he may have hit the geometric apex but was way shallow and had a choice to either run out of track on exit or feed more wheel. Also, realizing he was in a 'situation' he likely lifted at the same time he gave more steering input - a death sentence in the GT3.
