Inspection failure with painted reflectors?

Hey guys, just ordered painted reflectors from JBSpeed and wanted to check the knowledge base in the NE forum. Any idea if I'll fail inspection in MA with painted reflectors? Not sure if they are mandatory in the state? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got my inspection sticker back in August and they didn't say anything to me about it. A lot of people in Mass have those painted reflectors so there shouldn't be any problems.

Never heard of it being a problem here. I need to order some of these too.

i know a few members here with painted reflectors and they have not had any problems. From my experience the inspection stations mostly care to check for front plates and window tints.

Guys, don't be too optimistic. Inspection has gotten alot tougher since the beginning of this year. The RMV is sending random undercover cars to tighten up the inspection process.

FYI...just heard back from my CA and the dealer will fail the car for inspection if the reflectors aren't there.

it's not worth it to try and fight it anymore as you can get away but then it would end up costing you more money/time when a cop pulls you over and write you a ticket...see my below post

As long as the tint registers higher than 35%, you're legal. Sonny's Glass Tinting in Saugus specifically wouldn't go darker than that for that reason.

I believe it is 30% all around now and give 3% for light meter error... so you should be able to go as low as 27% and not get in trouble for it

look at this guy still responding over in the NE forum!!!

You are correct... so much so that my own step dad will not pass my car for tints even though we OWN the inspection station, lol... I have already been pulled over for it once so if I were to get pulled over again, it would look bad for the inspection shop

That was my intention, painters tape with the reflective tape over it for a quick fix on the inspection day.

You'd have to read the law to find out the details, but a DOT approved amber colored reflector that is permanently attached (debatable) seems like sound logic?

I understand the state limit is 35%. There's no way im putting 35% on my car ever...you can barely even tell if its tinted. I have about 22% right now, but all these b!tches here (inspection guys) are complaining, ill have to keep searching in the Worcester area !

Just go to a gas station man, they will never check that...especially if you are cool/nice with them.

I got my inspection sticker last week

No one ever noticed my shaved bumper markers on my old GTI and they actually were supposed to have bulbs to light up, and I shaved/filled/painted the rubstrip. Never failed.

I removed my amber reflectors on my 03 Corolla, had chrome bulbs and an HID kid and I never failed inspections. I think I am gonna go with clear reflectors when I have the money.

It's 35% for the 4 side windows and back windshield, nothing up front. See state law chart here:

Once a MassHole, always a MassHole I'm planning to return to the area and get a job with AAM down the road. I hope they'd still like me at that time.

That's exactly the problem. They'll come down hard on the inspection station if they found out the shop has passed a lot of non-compliant cars. I don't know what am I gonna do when I have to go to inspection because I have full Euro front bumper conversion on my M......

That's if you get your car inspected at a dealership...no gas station inspection station would fail you.
