We have revised the mounting brackets on the Helix FMIC to allow front to back and side to side adjustment capability, word on the street is its greatly reduced the need to trim however a small % of cars still require some trimming which lends to my theory that there are variances car to car in regards to the plastic cowl.

this is true... we installed one a few weeks back and required almost "ZERO" cutting!

regardless, the Helix never required much cutting at all even with their older, squared units like i have in my personal car... just depends on who's installing it for u

i have a 2/08 build e93 and i had to do a little cutting to get my Helix intercooler in. i had the one with the revised bracket so it was a little easier. should not be a problem putting the oem one back on without visible signs.
i also hear ams has a good intercooler

size doesn't necessarily mean efficient... it's all in the design
That being said, i'm not sure how the STETT is, but i know the Helix does well... we run helix on our shop cars and have installed plenty of them

I haven't installed a STETT yet, maybe someone else can give you some better input on this. It definitely "looks" like a nice piece.
