AFE intake vs Injen Intake - Which would you get
Was considering getting the Simota intake but upon further research it doesn't seem like it is the best fit. I think I have now narrowed it down to the AFe and the Injen. What does everybody prefer. Thanks again for all your help guys.

afe has heat shield, injen doesnt.. What about simota v2? it has heat shield and looks nicer than the afe and injen. they should all sound/perform similar.

aFe would be my choice. It's a good quality intake and a complete kit. I am running the DCI on my 135 and am happy with the performance improvement and sound.

I'm partial to the OEM-brand intake. Unless you're running insane boost, it flows just as well and cleans the air better, not to mention being much cheaper, quieter & giving no excuse for warranty denials.

Sad to say I would take injen... not sure if it's the same with BMW. But with my car (sti) the number 1 intake would be stock which can hold til 400hp. 2nd would be Injen because it's actually proven that it'll add HP.

Injen, heat shield on AFE is just a restriction.

So overall consensus is that these intakes don't really add any power unless you are running a JB3 or V3 on the more aggressive maps? No benefit for JB+ and SSTT?
I ask because Mike@AWD posted a 10whp gain with the Injen (test) but that could be because of bad testing methodology...(hood open closed/pre heat soak/etc) |

I know "which intake is better" has been beaten to death but I totally understand. I want an intake and honestly I can't pick either. AFE and Injen look nice according to most, I personally like the Injen much better in that category. Problem is both have had complaints of choking at higher RPM's but seem to help with throttle response, sound, and low-mid range power.
DCI's like BMS/Vishnu seem to be the least restrictive and possibly offer the lightest wastegate duty cycles but there are complaints of heat especially during the hot summer months (in Alabama we have lots of those). Replacing the stock filter with a drop-in like Macht-Snell, BMS, HKS, etc. seems to help a tad with added boost levels but they don't add the sound of the DCI's and might not be enough for higher boost levels. The CAI's such as STETT and UR seem to do well with lower intake temps and pretty good sound, decent looks... but then again are they as un-restrictive as the simple 2-cone DCI's (BMS/Vishnu) and how are they on wastegate duty cycles in comparison. Then there is also price... so ya, I have no clue what I want. ![]() |
