Resonator or High Flow cats?

I just had my VK DP's installed along with CP-E exhaust and its.... LOUD...
A little too loud for my taste... What are my choices? Catted DP? Resonators?

The issues... wayyyy too much drone.. and just too plain loud.

On the plus side... car is damn fast!!

Catted downpipes would be my choice. Still have the performance.

resonators for sure! doesn't kill your performance while eliminating most of the drone.

I disagree. IMO, resonators only take away high frequencies which do nothing for drone.
If you really want to get rid of drone then put in some HFCs.

Yes after some testing on previous cars: the resonators (straight mufflers with perforated pipe and rock wool) are high pas filters, they remove high frequencies but not low frequencies (= drone)

It seems HFcats remove both high and low frequencies.

Dose someone knows what could attenuate low frequencies (drone) without attenuating high freq.?
Actually my goal is to obtain high pitch metallic exhaust like F360 or M3 CSL

You could install a speaker and a tone generator. would be for shure unique on the market and tunable to your wish.

yes for sure! the same as putting a gas bottle with nozzle in exhaust to have flames!!!

But there is a way to tune the exhaust at an higher pitch, with kind if helmoltz resonator etc, but very difficult and no example to get inspired from.

It seems Dinan uses it for E92 M2, there are pictures on his site

I had a local shop do it. The pipes are fine! No issues with install for my guys. They do a lot of high performance installs so i got the usual, ' i hate working on these cars with no room' comments but overall, no issues. I can definietly feel the difference though. You get to hear more sounds as well!

I was actually talking to another member on here and he's getting his install done today actually. See what his feedback is. He has the exact setup i was going to look at as well. CP-E exhaust with CP-E HFC dp's.

Hi, sorry if i am bring this thread back, but were you able to resolve your problem of drone?

Also if so, which road did you go? cats or resonator?

thanks!

I have the CPE exhaust also and ordered the AR catless DPs...With just the CPE exhaust the car was pretty loud to begin with, with the addition of the DPs how much louder are we speaking of?? I mean the exhaust does drone a little when its under load (going up hill etc) with my OEM dps...Is it amplified much more with the catless DPs...Did it sound ricey loud?? Or nice loud.. I can live with a little noise since its not my daily driver, but if its obnoxious loud, then I might have to get the catted AR DPs if i still can change my order

I am having the reverse of the same problem....

I got Dinan Exhaust...GREAT sound but too quiet!

I was thinking of removing resonators.

Will this make it sounds like S#!T? or just make it a bit louder?

For me it was too loud. It's an awesome rumble outside. I had people comment they liked the sound better than the v8 m3! Inside with an auto and under load, my head was spiltting open! I thought it was the vk dps but even after getting catted dps and resonators still a tad too loud for me. Not ricey high pitched fart can loud but nice low ' watch out I'm hiding speed' rumble. In the end the dps had very little difference in sound for me. It was more the rear cans that made the difference.

In your case if you find it a little loud now, yes it will amplify, but not huge. If you are ok now, you'll be fine with the catless dps

How long have you had them on? My bastuck when installed sounded as quiet as stock. Took her for a few very spirited runs and a week later, it got louder. Beautiful rumble now. I compared to a few BMW performance guys and they are a tad louder than me! Give it time!
