TomTom dash mount
Hi.
Has anybody got any suggestions for a Tomtom dash mount. (apart from "Buy a car with Sat Nav you cheapskate!") I was thinking of something where the Sat Nav is mounted just above the air vents. I have seen a photo on an American forum where the guy had stuck a big piece of plastic on his dash. Needless to say it did not look good. Something similiar to the Sat Nav shown in the BMW accessories catalog would be good. Cheers Boyd |

I bought some vent mounts for mine, ok it covers the vents, but it's at the right level for me in the Mondeo and they were only about £6

Brodit Clip
I use a brodit clip and device specific mount. The clip fixes to the dashboard without using any screws, it just fastens around the trim. The mount is then affix to the flat surface of the clip. This arrangement still leaves the central switches accessible.

I like the sat nav position with the Kuda but dont really fancy sticking anything to my dash.
The brodit pro clip looks like the best option but I'm a bit worried about it marking my dash or rattling. Have you tried to remove it or have you just kept it in place since fitting? What does it look like without the Tomtom attached? I've had a bad experiene with vent clips. I fitted one to my Saab and it was no good. I was then unable to remove it and the Saab dealer wrecked my dash removing the vents. In the end I had to sell the car because I was so hacked off. This is why I am so worried about causing any damage. |

There's no way it will rattle. It isn't that attractive when the Tomtom isn't on it - I don't have a photo, but I have a photo of a similar installation on my previous 1 series. See this thread on babybmw.net
http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtop...144790#p144790 Removing the clip from the 1er left no visible mark. I don't think it would in the 3er, but I think it will be more difficult to remove, since it clips over the back of the top if the metal trim. |

Don't shoot me - just thinking about this. I don't have satnav yet but thinking about the brandnew BMW Navigator IV for my bike, which is a Garmin Zumo 660 with a BMW craddle and some additional direct access buttons. The Zumo 660 itself can be mounted in the car too.
I have brushed alu in my car and thought of superglueing high quality magnets behind the trim, and onto the mount of the zumo. That way you could remove it all together, and thought of short wires going into the glovebox (with maybe remote gps antenna), so you can put the whole thing wired and all in the glovebox. I know alu is not magnetic, but did a simple test and two magnets do seem to stick well with some alu in between |

I have the Pro-satnav in mine but i can't trust it as it has a tendancy to tell me to turn when i know the correct way is straight on!
I have my trusty Garmin 550 zumo with me and if I need full PC search or a second opinion I just plug it in to the ashtray outlet and sit it in the cupholder. simples ![]() |

Wires?
I've got a couple of ProClip options which should work, but how does one hide/run the wires? My clip will mount over the driver side A/C vent, above the headlight switch. Is there a way to go directly into the duct, then through the trim somehow, eventually to the center glovebox where the aux jack and power outlet are?

I've used one of these on my past two cars, and found them to be a good allround solution

Can't fault the brodit mounts, they are really good. In fact, I might have a spare "RH Vent Mount" if you want it.
Mounts to the right of the steering wheel, over/near the face vent.

Why can't Tom Tom or any other company for that matter make somthing like the actual cradle/docing station which Tom Tom supply to connect to the computer? That way you could just drop the Nav into the doc and off you go!
