Any advantages in using an LOC instead of line level input?
I got my hands on a Soundstream L.620 4 ch amp at a great price and will be doing some changes to my system ( i will use it to power my sws-8s and trunk sub)
the new amp has both line level inputs and variable RCA inuts ( .2v to 6v) I also alreaydy have an Audio Control LC6 and a Stingray LOC since I alreaydy have the 2 LOCs I can use either I was just wondering what is the best to use LOC or line level thanks

First off, take some flipping Valium. 3 hours on a Saturday before you stress? We're watching football!
![]() Secondly, "line level" means too many different things. To many pro audio and 12V audio guys, line level means preamp level, but to some people it means speaker level. I think YOU mean speaker level. You need to state if your 330 has Logic 7 or not. Most "speaker level" inputs on amps are not good sounding for mids and highs. They are often usable only for bass systems due to noise issues. The Soundstreams usually use a common-ground input on the RCA, and you can't use that in a BMW without an LOC. If you have Logic 7, you should use your LC6 in front of the Soundstream. If you don't have Logic 7, you would do better with a balanced to common-ground converter without any attenuation, on the HU outputs to the OE amplifier. There is more info on this topic at OEinterface.com at http://oeintegration.hcpstl.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2 |

What will happen IF you would hook up the output from the HU directly to let's say an old Soundstream 604, witch in the manual states that they have "Balanced Input Design (single-ended) for added immunity to noise caused by component and vehicle electrical system interaction."
Just wondering... |

I don't have a lot of Soundstream experience, but the term "single-ended" means "NOT balanced"...
![]() I would meter from the L outer shield of the RCA connector to the R outer shield. If the meter shows continuity, don't try it. I can tell you that true balanced inputs like the JL Audio, the Tru Technology, the Arc Audio, and others, work on the HU outputs, as well as the Zapco Symbilink inputs. The Alpine PDX seem to work, and Alpine does not claim balanced. The DLS amps work on the Acura balanced, and they are not true balanced either - but if you meter the shields, they are not common. |

Ok, I did measure the resistance between the shield's.Minimum resistance is 2k ohm (2000 ohm), but on the "un-balanced" output"(pass-through) I get 0,0 ohm.
I would appreciate any kind of knowledge. |

OK, the inputs have floating grounds, which meas they can take speaker signals as long as the voltage isn't too high.
The outputs are single-ended common-ground. |

"Balanced Input Design" on the soundstreams means you can hook them up straight to the OEM head unit
i'm doing that right now i just soldered in rca plugs and it works perfectly |
