Test drove an M3 today...

Was thinking about replacing my 335 with one. Loved the overall feel..and M-DCT was very nice...but damn...my stage 2 Dinan 335i 6mt feels soooo much faster.

M3 are fast at the top end, but the 335 has the down low torque that most people like myself love over the M3...

Test drove an M3 a couple months back and got the same impression. It was evident that the M3 was a superior track car... maybe even a sports car if it weren't for the speed limits here in the U.S.... but the 335i is clearly a better DD.

it's possible that dealers are filling up their cars with cheap gas (87 octane) hence the feeling of slowness.

I one upped the experience. I attended the 1 day m-school. The m3 is an awesome track car and I deceived myself that the 335i's boundless torque in a straight line was good enough. It led to my wavetrac LSD and kwv3 with swift springs upgrade on my 335i.

A modded 335 is better deal. Faster and about double the gas mileage. I'm betting if Dinan did the track test with their modded 335 with an LSD it would beat the M.

I haven't driven an M3 yet but I see lots of people feel this way. But why is that? The M3 is faster 0-60, isn't it?

Stock? Yes. Modded? Well that depends....

It should be noted that the low end torque of the N54 makes it "feel" faster as a DD.

With the new Msport package + mods it's somewhat close. I just wish you could get the LSD as an option!

I would take an M3 over any 335...modded or otherwise. I don't care how fast a modded 335 is in a straight line...Owning an M3 is a different experience. I had my friends AMV8 for a week or so and it didn't feel much faster than my 335 (which is tuned and has mods). But that's not the point. Driving that car is a sensation. Same with the M3 and how it feels and the dynamics right out of the box. It's funny hearing everyone go "Let's go M3 hunting in my Procede!" Most M3 owners won't care when heckled by 335 drivers. It was the same when I was heavily into the VW/Audi scene. They got tunes and mods in their GTIs and all wanted to go mess with S4 drivers. But hey, I suppose different strokes for different folks.Cheers.

I love the exhaust note of the M with an Eisenmann Race; it sounds retarded!
However, i cant justify spending that much more over my 335 just for a sick exhaust note! Especially since my 335 is faster!
Now, a blown M might be another story!

Almost. You also need suspension upgrades. A good set of coilovers at the very least. I just got mine installed and will start dialing it in. Now w/ my mod listed in my sig, I feel I can beat an M3 at the track. If that doesn't do it, I will need to add the M3 front control arms on top. Don't think I need to add sway bars but I may be wrong. I will know the next time I autocross and compare the responsiveness of the car.

My car was definitely quicker before suspension mods
and I can leave an M3 in the dust on any uphill climb, but they always catch back on the turns.
