Question: scratches removal for black E90

Hi guys

I've done a terrible thing to my 09 e90, I took the car to car wash shop and it ends up full of scratches and swirls. After days reading I bought porter cable 7424 xp and some pads with Optimum Compound. Maybe I am too new for detailing, the result is not like what I expected, I can still see scratches and swirls under the light, I am think maybe I used the wrong chemical, and this time I want your opinion before I buy, will Meguiar's #105 be my choice?

I was told BMW E90 black paint are really soft, is that true?

what is the best chemical solution for my car?

Thanks thanks and thanks.

jet black?

What color pads did you use? I think you just need more experience.

You cant finish with an orange pad and optimum compound. You will need a finishing polish and pad. I'm not too familiar with optimum polishes, but i believe (if you want to stick with optimum) the finishing polish is called Optimum Finish. As for a pad, I would use white. Jeweling is optional but adds that extra "pop" to the paint. For that I would go with a pad with no cut like blue after you use the white/opt. finish. Also, I would stay away from the yellow pad.

If you're just dealing with swirls, M105 on an orange pad followed by M205 on a white or black pad should do the trick. I don't have too much experience with the M105/205 combination yet though.

you will need a flex or a rotary from looking at the picture. Are you in Vancouver WA?

Yikes a car wash did that? It looks like it used sand paper to wash the car. I assume that it wasn't a touchless car wash. All the car washes around here are touchless so they wouldn't ever be able to inflict that damage. Good luck restoring the finish.

As mentioned above, you won't be able to remove surface scratches without using some type of a rotary. If the scratches are similar to the pics you posted then there shouldn't be much effort needed on your part as they are only surface scratches.
