Hey guys, Im paymon and i just sold my M3 3 days ago, and im picking up a 335i blk/blk 6speed comming in next week (excited) but yea... Im curious does anybody know how much lbs the turbo's pull at on our 335's? and if any software is being planned for release and how much more torque and hp will it add?

I believe they push about 8-9psi max. The compression is pretty high on these engines so extremely high boost applications are not a good idea without internal work

m_bazeepaymon, FMIC is not an internal work to be precise. You should really start reading some tuning 101 stuff if you don't know much about forced induction. Don't even think about touching those turbos until you learn more about it. I heard 335i pushes 3~5psi for partial throttle and 9psi at wide open throttle. Vishnu is working on a chip that pushes more boost pressure even at partial throttle and possibly raise the boost up to 13psi or so for WOT condition. Expect 40~70hp increase.

but good bye warranty once you upgrade. so if you do upgrade, all the maintenance will be up to you. its a good idea to know what you are doing. alot of newbies just slap on turbos on high compression motors, blow the crap out of it and wonder what the mechanics at the shop who installed it did wrong.

e92328i998, do you happen to know what the compression ratio is for the 335i engine application? I hope its below 13:1.

Of course i would Never Mod the car tilli k now everything about my baby, I may be a newb but not a retarded newb

Im hoping Dinan can come out with something (i hate dinan thanks to the M3 reputation it gave) but i am on a lease, and Dinan is the only tuning company that can work on my car... Just want a lil push to take the M3 from 0...

Hopefully shiv's XEDE will be able to get around the safeguards and there will be no way for the dealer to tell it was ever there... If there is a problem take it out and the warranty still works. Hopefully!

Technically it is the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the cylinder (bottom dead center) divided by the volume of the piston at the top of the cylinder (top dead center).

So the 10.2:1 compression ratio means that the A/F mixture has been compressed to 1/10th its size (its 'original size' being at bottom dead center of compression cycle and its 'fully compressed' size being at top dead center of the compression cycle).

The higher the compression ratio the more pressure that is put on the mixture inside the cylinders. Higher pressure equals more power (to a point), but higher pressure also equals higher temperatures, and the compression ratio found in the 335 is far too high for a conventionally turbo-charged engine. That is one of the key benefits of direct injection. DI significantly lowers the cylinder temps by actually cooling the cylinder walls. DI also allows for a much more accurate control over the A/F ratio because the fuel is injected into the cylinder itself rather than further upstream in the intake manifold. These two factors allow for a higher compression ratio which does wonders for power ( again, to a point) and, of course, throttle response.

With Vishnu's mods of ~additional 60WHP+ 60ft-lb torques, it'll kill the e46 M3 from 0-60mph, 1/4 miles or on the roll, you call it based on these numbers:

M3 ~330 BHP vs. modded 335 ~330WHP
M3 ~260 ft-lb vs. modded 335 ~345 ft-lb

Now, the question is that with the total package of the M car and 160 lbs less wt., whether or not the e46 M3 is fast enough to hold up with the modded 335 in the real life. Let the track or street race answer that.

FWIW, coming from my '04 Audi S4 the insurance on the '07 335i was the same. S4 is a more expensive car, but the 335 was newer. I would expect the M3 to be similar, as when I bought my S4 the M3 was my alternate choice, and I priced insurance on both -- with the M3 being negligibly higher.
