Radio shack has it. Just need unswitched power and a ground. I wired up a few of them in my old car and they worked great. You will need to cut a decent sized hole in a panel, but if you do it on a panel that's cheap to replace it's no biggie.

It is not difficult to add an unswitched power outlet. You need a fuse holder which will be attached to the positive battery terminal. The size fuse you use will depend on the amount of current you will be drawing. Probably 15 amp or 30 amp at most. You need to know the power consumption of the component that you plan on powering to decide on the appropriate fuse. You also need a 12 volt socket and a length of positive and negative wire, at least 10 gauge wire. The 12 volt socket can be placed wherever you like, then the 10 gauge pos/neg wires need to be routed to the battery where the positive wire will connect to your fuse holder and the negative to the negative battery ground on the car body. If you don't understand everything in these instructions, pay someone to do it for you. |
