Car went dead again!!

Damn ffs. Started the car up as normal. Drove down the road, round a couple corners then braked to go round corner and then car turns off again with the yellow engine management light on again!!! Wait a couple of minutes then car is brand new for the rest of the day!!!

WTF is going on? I went to the dealers 2-3 weeks back when I originally got the fault and they said it was a build up of carbon on my solenoid? Anyone understand that? So yeh they cleaned that up. They charged 120 or so for the whole lot (ie cleaning a spring and labour work ripoff!).

They had said to me that if the fault happened again then they recommend a new vanous valve (looked for this on the net and have not found anything!) £354.77 inc vat. What a load of shite! Anyone got any info on what this is????!!!

Just as I was getting ready to tint my windows as well.

What a load of shite!

Does the car actually turn itself off, or do you just have zero power but everything is on ?

Ok.. what's the history of the problem? When did it start, and what has been done to supposedly remedy the fault?

vanous is likely vanos - the mechanisme that changes valve timing.

What has been done is what I said in OP namely cleaning a solenoid?

They are now saying I need to replace a vanous valve costing over 300 quid!!!

That makes more sense. The dickhead who wrote this couldn't even spell "recomend"!!!

Is that anything to do with injectors?

I have just been updated from the workshop in reference to your vehicle -
We have found that your valve timing was slightly out of alignment - We
have carried out the necessary rectification work and we are currently
testing your vehicle extensively.
I am hoping that your vehicle will be completed for tonight. I will keep
you informed as far as I know.

This was the first email....

We have received repair instructions from BMW.
We have found excessive carbon build up in the valves of your engine - BMW
have authorised us to remove the cylinder head and remove the excessive
build up of carbon deposits that we have found. After this repair has been
carried out we will re-build the engine and run the vehicle.

We are expecting the completion of this work on Monday. As soon as the
workshop informs me that the necessary testing has been completed and the
vehicle is rectified I will contact you and arrange swapping over of
vehicles.

Thanks you so much for your patience on this issue.

2nd email...

Carbon build-up (on the exhast valve stems) was an issue back in the 90's, but on todays BMW engines?!

Sunny, I would doubt a Vanos issue or carbon buildup would cause the engine to shut down like yours does.....

luckily , i am under warranty...which is gona end soon...next year....

I would ask them for a written confirmation that this won't happen again!....

and a full breakdown of works carried out...

so that if it does happen again, they don't start with their bullshit..."ohh this might be a different fault"....

yes, there r minimal turbo lag and engine is very powerful etc etc....

but come on.....an engine warning light every 2-3 months is getting annoying now!!!!>....

THIS.

But every time it's happened to me its been round a corner as I'm braking. Not while I'm in motion so to speak.
