So how long did your factory battery last

Short story - BT cable saying that 'cant connect to control module'. Even though it initially says cable connected. When I enter the model, the screen goes blank for a bit and then the status bar switches to 'cant connect' and I am prompted for the ECU model.

I wonder if the batt being marginal would cause the BT cable to not be able to connect?

Longer story.
The car is now about 3 years old. I am about to take it in for 30K service. I hook up a BT scanner and I get could not connect to control module. I got a green LED on the cable. And when I first start the software it says enthusist cable connected, but then I put in the model and the status bar changes to could not connect to module and it prompts me for the ECU model.

When I tried yesterday, I left the ignition on for a while while the updated BT software downloaded. When I tried to start the car later, it would not crank (car had been in the garage and maybe the lights added just enough extra load). Put a charger on the bat for about 10 mins and it started up ok.

Tried the BT again today and even outside (no lights) after just about 10 mins of trying, the batt again dropped below the point where the car would crank.

Do you have a tune? Are you trying to access the ECU? The procede, for instance, blocks the BT tool (and anything else for that matter) while it is in non-valet mode (for obvious reasons). If you have a procede, switch into valet before accessing modules.

Edit: doh, nevermind, just read the bottom part. Get a new battery!

I checked a while back to see if the local battery dealer had an Optima battery for our cars and they said no. Maybe they do now? Those things are great because they resist vibrations and heat, and honestly it is more of a 5-7 year battery as compared to regular lead-acid (valve regulated) batteries that last 3-5 years and don't like heat and too much shaking/vibrations. On a side note, our batteries aren't in the engine bay so the heat issue should be null.

Yeah, harold told me about the braille bats.

I want to know a little more about their longevity before I commit.

Local parts place say they have an optima that will work. 3year free replacement warranty.

I need to check the specs on them.

1 more thing about Optima (atleast on my last car) is the same size battery was about 4 pounds lighter than the VRLA lead-acid battery.

It seems BT support can't really figure out this condition either. They asked if I could use the cable with the engine running - NOPE I can't

They asked me to send a log. I will do that in the next day or so probably.

A new battery should last 5 years easily. Mine is perfect since 03/2007, so no long-term experience here.
