Trying to decipher TireRack's performance categories
I am trying to select tires for an E90 xi without the sport package and I'm confused by the way TireRack describes the categories.
I am willing to pay a premium - my two concerns are handling and quiet (I'd like something quieter than the Turanza's that were OEM.) I would have thought that ultra-performance all-season tires would have both. Tire Rack's explanation of Ultra High Performance on this page... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/types/uhpas.jsp ...doesn't say anything about noise at all. But in the description of the less expensive category of "Grand Touring" at this page.. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/types/grandtour_as.jsp says "these tires are designed to blend a performance tire's appearance with a passenger tire's smooth, quiet ride. " Do they really mean to suggest that "grand touring" (medium-price) tires are quieter than the higher performance choices. Do you really have to sacrifice handling to get a quiet ride?
