Question 2010 E92 TPMS change? is this true

I heard somewhere that the TPMS system/module--whatever it is, has been changed for MY 2010 M3's...can anyone confirm? if so, does this also apply to the 335?... I need to know ASAP as I have aftermarket wheels that I will be putting on my 335 when it gets in next week, and dont want the "older" TPMS sensors in there.

Yes, the sensors have changed for 2010. Unfortunately they are about $40 more per sensor as well...

I'm in the same boat. I was planning on using an existing 17" winter wheel setup with TPMS sensors from 2007/2008 (already mounted and balanced).

So what I gather from this and other threads on M3post is that only the new 2010 sensors will reset correctly on new 2010 models and that older TPM sensors would need to be replaced if you want to avoid the chirp warning every time you start your car. Can anyone confirm this?

I believe the sensors changed frequency for all 2010 models.

I have a 2010 and I ordered the wheels and tires before car delivery. That explains why I can't reset my system. I am so mad at myself...

I know this is probably a noob question, but is it possible to just take the sensors off the stock wheels and put them on the new after market wheels?

Yes, but in the end it'll probably not be cost effective. To move the sensors you need to dismount the tire ($20-25) add a valve stem ($5) and rebalance the wheel/tire. For using the old sensors you'll need to buy new "o-rings" so at a minimum it'll cost you $30 to $35 each time you move the sensors.

It is certainly easier just to buy new sensors.

Hey Gary,

Will you guys still be selling the old TPMS later on then? I plan to get new wheels..just not yet waiting for winter to be over. Or will I have to buy the more expensive ones later on?

For people doing searches in the future.

Both the TPMS sensors and valves are different for all the 2010 models. The new part numbers are:

36 10 6 790 054 RDC modules (sensors)
36 14 6 792 829 RDC valves
