Suspension Install

Hey guys,

I am considering getting H&R coilover or Bilstein/H&R springs
installed into my 335xi sedan. Who can you recommend in the Boston/NH
area to do a good/great job on this type of work? I am thinking Turner or
Bavarian Performance? Anyone on this forum who has a shop and can do the work? Let me know also which is the better suspension option for boston driving? I want something more precise than stock w/o shaking my fillings out

THanks!

I had H&R coilovers installed on my 335xi at Turner. Very satisfied with the coilover and their work.

All my suspension work is done by Dave, he's a forum member (Dave96dcm)

Just bring him the parts and he'll throw them on for you

If you are looking for a vendor to buy and install I would recomend a few different places...

Turner will sell and install them. Not much to say about Turner, they are one of the best BMW shops PERIOD...

Bavarian Performance Group may sell aftermarket stuff... if not they are DEF a capable shop to install them, they are located in Winchester and the customer service through them is great. The people running the shop are very knowledgable and they are great enthusiasts just like us.

If you are looking for good work at rock bottom pricing... PM Dave96DCM... he has been servicing a number of members cars in the area for a while... he doesnt sell parts only installs them...

Also give East Side Motoring in Waltham a call... they do have an onsite tech and should be able to get you set up with a good deal on the parts with install... When you call ask for Lorenzo and tell him Pete from Yuppieracing sent you, he'll take care of you

Thanks everyone for the info. I am leaning towards the H&R coilovers so I can have a great drop in the summer and raise it up a bit in the winter. Money wise its only a few hundred over the spring/coil setup.

How do you guys feel about the H&R I hear they don't squeak like the KW coilovers, but there has been rumor of rusting. They are stainless so I am not sure the rusting is going to be an issue.

Also any of you guys get sway bars installed on the xi/x-drive?

Thanks

I'm sure Turner is great, but I can't justify what they charge. 5 hours @ $95/hr is just a little ridiculous. I did it myself in ~4 hours (first time working on a BMW suspension). I bought some $50 spring compressors like 4 years ago. Great investment since I've used them probably a dozen times.

Man, I should bring my floor jack/stands and spring compressors up here and offer suspension installs for like $150. I'd make a killing.

Can't go wrong with H&R or KW.

PM replied

Rear sway looks the same, front actually looks pretty much the same, Timothy and I compared Dave's with the xi when Timothy was at my house.

Supposedly xDrive has a thicker rear sway to compensate for understeer.

Hmm I've got a spring compressor, floor jack, jackstands, and impact tools..........

But back on track...I think you should take a wheel off and just inspect your suspension. THis way you will be able to see exactly what would had to be done to install the coils. You may even feel bold enough to try it yourself and save that money for some other mods. Depending on when you want to install and where you are located, I can even give a hand(read free).
