Sirius installation - $1100 !!!!!
I have just picked myself up off the floor. I asked a local BMW authorized dealer to install Sirius radio in my 06 330i. As an afterthought I asked him to tell me how much it cost - thinking $500-700. He quoted $1100! Am I being taken for a ride or does anyone have similar experiences?

WOW!! My Labor + Parts + Sirius Kit + Taxes only came out to like high $7XX range. I don't remember the exact total but you should be calling another dealership on that one.

Hey local (darkcloud) What XM do you use? How is it connected?
I am a bit of a purist and dont like any additional electronics that aren't part of the cockpit structure

Shouldn't Sirius subsidize the installation cost, like satellite TV providers or cell phone carriers? Free equipment + installation when you sign up for a year of service would be nice.
$500+ for installation plus $10+/month for service. That is a very costly proposition for maximum 2 hours/day of use, in my case. I'll just stick with AM radio for the time being. All I listen to is ESPN radio and local sports stations anyway. |

$1100 for INSTALLATION is OBSCENE. I'm a BMW tech, and the MOST they should be charging is like $300! $1100 for PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION, well that's still high, but much better... The receiver is like $500, right? still, don't let them rape you.
It's TOPS, including programming, like a 3 hour flat-rate job. I know that's what I would charge. And ADHD, you got the f***in HOOK UP, so don't brag about how little you spent, you'll just get people sad! lol. |

Are you coming to the DC metro meet? I'd love to see your setup in person. It seems you ran your antenna cable to the rear parcel shelf. How's the reception? I'd like to be able to have the option of XM and Sirius in my car and your pictures/setup is giving me ideas...

I definitely like Sirius better than XM, but that's just my opinion.. $1100 is ridiculous. I negotiated when I leased my car that they sell it to me at cost which was $315. Of course, when I went to pick up the car, they tried to charge me for a subsription, which I already had from my e46, so I think they had to eat it...

Great...gonna start looking at XM units. As mentioned, it'd be awesome to switch between XM and Sirius at any time. I originally had this idea about tapping the shark fin in tandem with the sirius but was told that was a bad idea/won't work. Will definitely take notes from your simple set-up at the meet. I know another member was wondering about DIYing XM in his e90. Please sign up at our Meet thread when you get a chance, we're starting to solicit an attendee list to plan for the various amenities and we wouldn't want to miss you out.
