I would probably get the S4 unless I planned to do a lot of mods

Who wants a sedan anyway?
But if you do need one this comparison is total BS. The S4 is closer in price to an M3 than a 335i so it's a set up for Audi from the get go. An M3 would trash the Audi.

THe 2010 S4 costs LESS than equally equipped 335XI and beats the 335XI in every performance category (looks are subjective, but...) I just got me a "BASE" (Premium Plus) model, which is equal to the 335XI + Premium + Sport + Cold packages for $47,200 out the door. And there is only 3000 of them coming to the USA per year! M3 is a completely different category of the car -- performance and price-wise. THe new RS4/RS5 will go against the M3, unfortunately, looks like not in the USA... As for tuning, S4 is almost as tunable as the 335. A 430HP/380+ TQ chip is out by MTM, so... |

they both not that handsome IMO.
I mean I'm sure the handling, power, luxury, etc are there. but they don't give you any excitement when looking at them. I wouldn't buy them. |

Audi performance is pretty unimpressive for the money. If I were to spend a bucket-load of money on an Audi it would be on an A5 since that thing is sexy as hell. An S5 would obviously be better, but you can get a c63 amg or an m3 for that price so I doubt I would get that.
Either way the 135i is faster than the s4. |

If you load the 335XI the same way you load the S4, the price of the 335XI will also be at 53k and more... So, how is then the loaded S4 in the M3 category and not in the 335 category? Both (335 and S4) are the 6-cyl FI engines, the M3 is the V8. What category would RS4 be in then, according to your logic? I think you need the (snobby BMW) reality check here. I came off the E90 and have weighted my options... Re-calculate again, please... Base S4 is close to $10k cheaper than the Base M3 Loaded S4 is more than 10k cheaper than loaded M3. Definitely in NO category they are the same... |

The S5 still has the V8, old engine, so... I guess the 335 is even MORE UNimpressive since according to the reputable reviews S4 performs better than the 335 for less money... Anyway, any "S" should not be compared to the M3/C63, etc... |

in real world driving i don't think a tenth of a second quicker to 60 or a few tenths of mile faster in the quarter mile would win me over... if you compare the 335xi vs the S4 to be used in real world driving and priced them the same, i would take the 335xi, because overall, the expenses incurred in four years will be less and the performance, looks and purpose would be too close to make a difference.
i think people get caught up on the Top Gear type of testing and results... 0-60, quarter miles, mpg, slalom, 60-0 and things like that, that's not how you're gonna drive everyday, a car may be the best in the track, but complete garbage in the streets. |

However, how did you come up with the incurred expenses cost??? WHy would the S4 be less reliable than the 335??? If you're talking about the 4-yr maintenance thing -- oil change for Audi is $60. That is $250 in 4 years (for me). Still, the cost is (much) lower. Audi has the Audi care program for $740 that is equivalent to the Bimmer's 4/50k Maintenance and with that -- Audi is STILL less expensive. However, MOST of buyers get this as a part of the deal and rolled into the price... As you mentioned, I also do not care about the 1/4 mile or 0-60 numbers. But, someone mentioned that for the money, the Audis underperform, etc. A bunch of nonsence... |

I personally like the S4 better and, unless BMW comes back with a successful counter in the next couple years (functioning hpfp is a prerequisite), I'm probably going to be getting into an Audi.
I think the new S4 has done a good job of making the choice available on personal preference alone. Price and performance differences are nearly negligible, giving other deciding factors more weight, such as steering feel, cabin layout, awd perference, seats, etc.... It lets the little differences shine. I like that. |

its funny how many Audi fan boiz are posting on a BMW forum. it may boil down to the following reason's and ill see how this plays out....LOL
1) they are like an ugly fat kid wanna hang out with the cool kids. 2) Not enough Audi owners are enthusiastic with their purchase so their forum sucks. 3) their a bunch of fudge packin douchebags that troll around BMW, Mercedes and Porsche forums. 4) they realize that BMW owners are happier with their purchase more than they are and want to bring us down with them. 5) they are morons 6) they are a$$holes 7) they are lonely souls looking for company. 8) they are nervously happy that the S4 beat out the 335i in a comparo and not realizing the 335I has been out since 2007 and know that when the new model arrives next year....the S4 is going to get spanked.... so......... ![]()
